Title: If you had access to a 3axis CnC machine?
Post by: Special T on December 06, 2017, 12:48:56 PM
It's looking like a friend of mine will be buying a CnC machine for his business. Think he said the table will be 16x20 or there about. He will be using it for aluminum work. What cool project or parts would you make?
Either for personal use or sale?

I'll take a front bumper for my new truck if he wants something to practice on!

I'm jealous.

I've been getting most of my custom mounts and such done through Emachine.com, but I'd happily support a local biz if I could. Do you think he'll tool for HDPE as well?

What kind of rig? You should check out Movin bumper kits out of Montana  for full sized winch bumper kits that are plasma cut... you just bend and weld.

Definitely send me his info of he does this. Got a 6061 billet project and a few 5052 pieces I'd like done.  He welds, too, I assume?

If the Z could handle it, lowers.

You can always get/make a jig. I wishbi had found the open source programming for them before they disappeared. It would be cool to make your own, but I don't see a lot of $ making potential in it... perhaps 80% lowers since they are less machine work and about the same price...

The options are endless as long as someone can write the program.  My machine has a 40x20 table and is a 4 axis.  Been fun learning and dreaming up things to build

I have kicked this around for over 30 years.I have built some very cool pieces for people trying to come up with the next big thing.Always ran into the same road block,Patents.Good luck getting something going and i mean that.An idea for your friend would be to start bidding work online for that cnc. Also i didnt see where you said lathe or mill.

I think it would be cool to design and mill a fly reel.

We had a machine shop class in high school, I've made some cool stuff in there. I have an aluminum Lego somewhere. I built a plate to drop hot lead on to form shot. I think I sold it years ago. I wrote everything on master cam seems my imagination was the biggest limit I hit.
