Man now i am really confused on what i should do.
Brother in law and i are going to Colorado on a DIY elk hunt that we have been planning for 5 years and we will draw this year it is a 1st season hunt Oct 10-14th.
I have 11 Elk points and i drew the Multi season elk tag, i have been putting in for margaret and toutle ML for 6 years now and rifle before that. I don't want to waste 11 points. I have been looking forward to hunting margaret or toutle someday but i feel there are better hunts out there.
I would like to put in for peaches ridge ML but it rund the 1st-10th it would interfere with CO, all of the west side ML bull tags interfere with CO. Man what a problem to have... Oh and i will buy it, not letting this go after 4 years of puting in for it.

Turn it back in and you retain your points
-
With 11 points, buy a bow and go after one of the blues tags in September. Worst case you still get to hunt the wetside for archery and/or ML before and after your Colorado hunt.
-
Put in for an eastside rifle permit for the Blues for later in Oct or wait and see if the state really puts out the rifle rut tags for mid sept and try for those. Don't put in for the Blues archery cause thats my tag!! nwhunter

What is sweet is i have a bow a ML and a rifle. And i am proficient in all 3.
I will not be turning it in...
-
All set then! Tons of options if you can do all three. I'd try to win the lottery with the rifle rut tag, then put down the archery blues tags as "backup". Just make sure you save all your vacation beforehand. :chuckle:
-
Better wait and see how many times they redraw for the multi season tag.

:yeah:
-
Crap... Put in for for one tag... Blues and wait and see
-
Don't see how the Peaches ML tag can interfere, should only take 5-7 days to tag out there if you scout and know the area. Hell hire rugged class, they should be able to put you on bulls quick. Don't waste the 11 points.
-
only 11 pts good luck drawing a bull tag :chuckle:

So true!
-
The first thing you may have to do is change your screen name... :chuckle:
-
people draw bull tags with less points than i have, and i am thinking my time is near, maybe not but i have that opportunity now.
And i think i could find a bull on the wetside with all the time you get.
I think i will put in for Dayton, Wenaha and Tucannon
-
Id apply for one of the Rifle September rut hunts in the blues.
Wenaha west
Wenaha East
Dayton
Mountain View

I hope you are in Better shape than this 32 year old was in if your putting in for those tags. :twocents:

+1 They'll get you on a good bull if you are in shape and know what you're doing (which is my assumption).

I hunted the Wenaha a few years ago. May want to spend a little time on the stairmaster... :chuckle: Lot's of good bulls in there though... :yeah:
-
30 min on the stairmaster right now. With the time change i will put my pack frame on for the 3 mile hike around the block and a run up a huge hill at the end. I have to be ready for 11000 feet in Colorado this year, so i am pretty sure if i got drawn for one of those tags i would be ready.

I hunted above 11k in Colorado 2 years ago......get ready for your lungs to burn :twocents:

We have an outdoor archery range here in Walla Walla. I like to run it in shorts and t-shirt and shoot all 17 targets for about two months before elk season starts. It is a trail that goes up a steep hill, along a ridge and then back down to the start point. It's a smoker. I thought I was in shape once and decided I was going to run it and shoot 5 arrows at each target... by the last target I couldn't draw my bow...

Running with arrows..................... :bdid:

...Obviously they're in a covered bow quiver. I wouldn't say it is anymore dangerous than chasing elk over hill and dale with the same gear... :dunno:
