Its here, MT FWP commission rattling around a special muley season in effected areas for January. Thought I would put that out to yall.
-
No link. :dunno:

Did anyone see how much the extra tag costs?
-
Or if non residents can buy the OTC?

Yah, I'd be surprised if non res were included in this hunt unless they can't get enough resident hunters. I'm surprised they couldn't get enough info in the regular hunt. Looks like they will have up to 1,000 hunters taking 400 deer.
-
I don’t know why non res hunters wouldn’t. As long as they had hunting license for the yr already
-
Following some links I found info that says it will be a separate license sold over the counter only on a first come first served basis and only valid for this hunt. Doesn't say anything about residents only. 600 whitetail and 600 mule deer. There will be check stations and once they have enough deer the hunt will be over.
-
What I saw was that resident licenses were $10 each and non-resident licenses would be $20 each.

First come first served. Resident and non resident. $10 and $20.
FWP will sell 500 licenses for each of the two season segments. Of those, 100 will be either-sex tags while 400 will be for antlerless animals only. Licenses will cost $10 for residents and $20 for non-residents.
-
Why would they sell 2x as many permits? So if I buy for the second hunt and they already have filled the quota then game over?
-
Has anyone found out what time they go on sale the 11th? I imagine they will go quick, at least the any deer ones.
-
Sounds like you can put in for several, not sure how that would work but I'll probably give it a shot. It would be well worth the trip to put a couple does in the freezer.
Anyone see what time the sale starts, it wasn't mentioned in what I read?

I'm going to be up at midnight!

The season is set for dec 15-feb 15 now. Not broken into 2 segments like was originally proposed. I called and they said tags go on sale at 5 am Monday

How did you find the time?
-
5 am Mountain?
-
I called and asked a representative in the billings FWP office, I was trying to find out if they planned to expedite mailing of the tags with the short window between online purchases and season opening. She told me the tags will go online at 5 am on the 11th online and will be available at vendors as they open. I assumed mountain time since all of Montana is, and I am in mountain time as well

$20 for non residents? Any additional fees?

This may be a stupid question but you have previously purchased a Montana license correct?

More than most yes
-
There are some people that are much faster typers than I...
Dam those either sex tags went fast.
-
I could've had a muley either sex but went whitetail instead for some reason. I guess the fact I already got a decent muley this year and I've yet to take a good whitey

Are they all sold out now?

This maybe a stupid question but can the meat from this hunt leave Montana before the CWD test results are complete?

Yes. Just can't take skulls with any flesh or brain matter or the spinal column.

Hopefully they ship quickly, we're looking at leaving either Friday or Sunday. I'm not sure if you can get the tags reprinted at a FWP office.
I'll start a thread for anyone that wants to discuss the hunt and share info.
-
CWD rules get broken constantly! Ive seen so many whole deer leave cwd states over the years.
-
Dang I was too late :bash:
-
I thought about buying one of these but the 4 hour drive didn't seem appealing to me, good luck to those with a buck tag. I'm sure a few big deer will be taken on these hunts

My buddy and I are driving 10 hrs but we both have freezers that are running low and I don't want to depend on a depredation elk or spring bear to get me through to next fall

There is a thread on here about it http://nwsportsmanmag.com/oregon-man-cited-bringing-cwd-infected-deer-carcass-back-montana/ (http://nwsportsmanmag.com/oregon-man-cited-bringing-cwd-infected-deer-carcass-back-montana/)

Wonder how they disposed of it? If it is still in Oregon, then the state isn't a CWD free state as you can't destroy the prions and they are viable essentially forever from what I read.

That map in the article is telling. Every yellow dot is a known case in a captive deer. Look at those dots and how they are associated with the known areas of CWS, (the areas in darker gray). It's very likely that deer farming had a lot to do with the spread of this disease. Buying and shipping of these deer could easily be the way this disease spread to new areas.
