Post by: pashok23 on December 19, 2017, 09:41:00 PM
How many of you guys carry shotgun with you while hunting coyotes? I lost a few coyotes at shotgun range(hard chargers) So i started to carry a 12ga with coyote load

I do the majority of the time. One of my favorite things is blasting a close range yote with a load of buck shot

My brother brings his shotgun more than anything else when we hunt. I prefer my AR, coyotes are basically the only thing I hunt with a scoped rifle, save an occassional MS deer tag.

Two guys on a stand, one has a shotgun the other an AR. Most of the time when I am calling alone I use a shotgun because lots of places once I am set up, the longest shot is only 50 yds.

So if your hunting solo do you pack both rifle and shotgun? If so how hard is it to transition from one to the other? Never have carried a shotgun, but I think I need to. Had a hard charger this weekend that would have been a gimme with a shot gun.  Still got her on the way out, but could have lost her very easily. I hunt solo a lot. Have a 870 super magnum that could be a dedicated coyote gun.

Hunting tighter cover I carry a combo gun, either an O/U rifle shotgun or a drilling shtg/shtg/rifle. transition is just the choice of which trigger to pull.

I hold the shotgun, I like it up on shooting sticks and lay the rifle on my legs. If they come fast shotgun, if they hold up there is usually time to switch to the rifle.

Good info here. I have been going with a shotgunner, but thinking on bringing mine on solo hunts. Glad to see this verified!

So what’s the preferred load/choke combo?

So what’s the preferred load/choke combo?

3" 4buck out of a modified choke just lays them out!
