Title: Taxidermy Trouble
Post by: Ironhead on March 07, 2009, 12:07:04 PM
My hunting partner and I killed a couple Antelope in Idaho in Sept. 2006.
We took them to a taxidermist in E. WA on the way home on Sept. 26th 2006 and gave them 100.00 dollar deposit on each animal. We were told they would be done in a year as they had a back log and were behind . Not a problem as I don't like to rush good taxi work even though I know how long it takes to do a shoulder mount. My partner who lives close to the taxi and has taken work to them in the past was in contact with them and called several times after the year was up to see how things were going or not going. He was told they would be done soon and to wait for their call (quit bugging them). Well he got his goat back in Sept. 08, after he got his goat I started calling to find out when mine was going to be done. They told me each time that it would be done at the end of the month. I made 2 trips over their to see what was going on and both times nobody answered the door to the shop or the residence, (350 mile round trip). I Still don't have either the cape and horns or the finished mount. What legal actions do I have. I am guessing small claims
is my only action. Any other Ideas, I hate to name the taxi as I don't know their personal situation but I am getting to that point. :bash:

Call everyday till they answer and see where in the process they are. If they havent mounted it see if you can pick it up to take to a Reliable Taxidermist, might eat your money but if it is tanned already it would be worth it.

Who was it??? There was one that just got busted for mounting illegal animals. Hope it wasn't them. Don't recall the name. IMO you've waited too long. I think the name should be posted so other members can avoid this outfit.

I am with Bucklucky on this, demand your cape and horns back and take ot somewhere's else. Like said if already tanned it is worth the 100.00 already deposited.

Two years isn't that horrible if they are upfront about it.  If they start dodgeing you or making promises they can't keep, well thats another situation.

I agree 2 yeras isn't the end of the world if they aren't dodging you. It has now been 2 years and 5 months  and they have promised they would have it done the last 3 months in a row. I own a business, and telling the truth is the smartest and the most approriate thing to do. I will not go public with the name sorry. I think I will try Charlies advice and see where they are at with the mount, I was under the impression it was almost done but if not will take the cape and horns somewhere else. Thanks to all

I'd feel bad if I could have helped someone avoid a situation and chose not to, then they ended up getting screwed. I guess I appreciate you taking the high road so to speak but if promises were in fact broken and you keep getting the run around I think it's your right to warn others. I know I would.  :twocents:

Keep us posted Ironhead.  I also wouldn't play that card until last resort.

Ask someone on the site from over there to go check out prices to see if they are still taking in new jobs, maybe they closed shop like so many companies have been forced to do lately :twocents:
