Title: Dream guns
Post by: jdb on January 25, 2018, 08:09:14 PM
So the doldrums of winter have set in and I’ve been dreaming of guns. I dream often of 3” Smith and Wesson K frames, short barreled ruger blackhawks, long barreled lever actions. Of late it’s been a reoccurring dream from my past. When I was in high school I was a voracious reader and hunting and guns my favorite subject, I read every magazine I could afford and pestered everyone I came in contact with for books about hunting and guns. It was in a magazine I don’t recall which one that I ran across an article written buy an author from south western Washington, he hunted black tails and had a rifle purpose built. It was a Remington Model 7 in .358 Winchester, it had a short compact scope with a straight tube, and a camouflage stock. He theorizesd that that configuration was perfect for sneak hunting through the timber. The scope as I recall was a variable, something like 1.5x5 he felt that was a perfect compromise compact, lightweight, but enough power to allow him to reach out to a couple hundred yards  should the need arise. The .358 was Ideal, heavyweight bullets penetrated deeply when raking shots were presented. Even though I’ve never hunted black tails and may get to I’ve dreamed of that rifle ever since.

I here ya all I am thinking about is my next custom build. Time to start acquiring parts so I can get this thing thrown together next year. I have plenty of hunting rifles think I’m going to build just a long rang rifle . Leaning towards the 300 terminator with those new 245 gr bergers. Looks like it should be really close to 3300fps with them

Yea that looks like an impressive long range hammer even with the 230's.

i tend to focus on the rifle more than the chambering.  would someday love to have a real custom in my posession, something along the lines of jack o'connor's "#2" rifle.

"dream gun" that's a dang tough question, there are so many choices, I like all types of guns, I tend to buy fast magnums but also like nostalgic guns that had purpose, its tough to think of a bad gun, and all of the choices have appeal one way or another  :dunno:

I like the mechanical nature of a drilling. shotgun and rifle in one? sign me up! classic mausers, doubles, and for some inexplicable reason, the Alchemy Arms Spectre  :yike: saw it as a youth and liked it... no accounting for taste I guess.  :dunno: :chuckle:

My last build was a dream gun for a long time. Biggerhammer showed me the way and did most of the hard work. Now, if I had extra money to play with, I'd love a Kimber or Sig match 1911 or a nice wheel gun in stainless, maybe a .357 or .44, you know, after we're all done paying medical bills!  :chuckle:

Fine double guns have always been my dream guns. Whether shotgun or rifle. British doubles are beautiful, functional and cost as much as my house and land for about 2 or 3 of them.

That would be an awesome gun, in .308, right? I have a friend who was one of the 1st Scout/Snipers. I believe that's what he shot. He recently gave me a hardcopy of Marine Sniper with and inscription to him from Hathcock. It's one of my prized possessions.

I've always wanted a matched set of early American dueling pistols, with the fitted box and the accessories and all that.

Also, I've always wanted an MP5k.
