I also have the 6.5x284 long range hunter with scope 10.8 lbs this rifle will top that but I want to shoot to a 1000 with this one really putting it together as a practice gun. But figure I should decide before I headspace it to brake or not. I do use my brake on my lwh but doesn't really ale a difference as far as seeing the shot so far longest shot was my high hunt buck at 476That factory brake on the lrh is a joke. All it does is make it loud with zero recoil change that I could perceive. :chuckle: my lrh was a 1/2 moa shooter consistently tho with 143 eld x. Sadly I sold it to build a custom. ...still not real sure why with how well it shot

I’m assuming he is talking about the rifle he is building so he would want to thread for and mount the break before mounting the barrel on the action.

If you have a timed brake installed on a Savage barrel without headspacing it and marking the top center of the barrel you run the very likely risk of the brake not being properly timed when you screw the barrel back on the action. The way around that is to install and headspace the barrel, then clearly mark top center before you send it off to have the brake installed. It's not 100% accurate but it's typically close enough that most people won't notice. It's not an issue if you use a self timing brake or one with radial ports.
