So I more less window shopping rifles for a antelope hunt this fall. I walk into Sportsmans, and start chatting the gun guy. I have read a lot about the 25-06 and thought it would be a good antelope/blacktail round. After chatting him up for awhile he shows me the Howa 1500 in a 25-06 complete with a (soon to be replaced) scope for $389.00 out the door. A quick call to the wife and I'm the proud owner of. Since I got home I have done some research on the Howa and it doesn't look like I'm going to hate it. Reviews look good, and look forward to shooting it.

Howa 1500’s are great rifles. I can’t imagine a better rifle for the money, and you certainly won’t regret your choice of cartridge either. I have a Weatherby Vanguard in 30/06, essentially the same rifle.

That's a great deal! Howa's are great guns period, not just for the price.

I feel dollar for dollar Howa gets the crown for entry level pricing, but I didn't care for the Nikko Stirling scopes. I do regret not getting the gameking package since the scope rail alone put me over that price point.

I won a stainless steel Howa 1500 with a Hogue stock and that crazy Nikko scope at a RMEF banquet. I put a Leupold V3 on it and couldn't be happier with a hunting gun. Mine is a .270 win. I followed their barrel break in suggestions, but I don't know if it makes a big difference. Lucky gun for me, too. Last three seasons I have had hunting success with a cow elk in Montana, a 5x5 whitetail in Washington and a 4x4 bull elk in Washington. My go to gun now.

ive got a howa 1500 in 6.5 creedmoor. I love it. It took a while to break in, the first 90ish rounds fouled the barrel really bad with copper, seems to be fine now though.
I didn't care for the flexible houge overmold stock either, so I replaced it with a boyds pro varmint. dropped in some pillars and bedded it, topped it with a vortex 4-16 viper hs-t.
It will shoot between .5-.75 MOA with factory loads.

Have been doing some research on scopes to put on the 25-06. I think I have decided on the Leupold 3.5-10x40 w/boone and crocket reticle. Who has one or has used one? Pros and cons.

I've owned and used three Howa 1500's ( 2 in .270, 1 30-06) since 1981. All three are or have been sub MOA shooter's. Hang on to yours. Many people pay twice the price for half the accuracy.

Just ordered the Leupold vx3i 3.5-10x40 from Bobs. Cant wait to shoot this combo.
