Title: Montana Elk Permit choices
Post by: vandeman17 on February 26, 2018, 11:00:25 AM
My old man and I have a 4 points built up in Montana for elk and are planning to hunt both elk and deer there again this year as long as we at least draw the combo tag. Since we know we are hunting deer for sure and 99% sure we will at least hunt an OTC archery elk we figure we might as well apply for a permit just in case. I have been researching off and on for a while but with deadline approaching, figured I better decide so we can get our paperwork done. Any suggestions on a unit to apply for with remotely decent odds but still a quality hunt? I am perfectly content with a flyer and also open to either archery or rifle since we don't have to declare weapon. Right now I am leaning towards a breaks unit or maybe Snowy mtns.

Best part of Montana is you can hunt both archery and rifle during the general season. Check on the elk draw permit, seems I heard some time back that if you drew a tag that is the only unit you can hunt. I may be wrong on that but seems like I heard or read that.
