Decided on which programmer to buy, the Edge CS2 for my 2006 duramax. 499.00, anyone have connections or codes? I’m sure this thread will collect dust, but I just have to ask. Lol
-
Tagging as I have an 06 Duramax. Bone stock since day 1. 104K miles

FYI, I’ve looked at a few places and there are many different models, the guy at Edge said this is the model I needed. There are more expensive ones if you want to hook up backup cameras and other fancy stuff. The model he recommended is the CS2, if I find one cheaper I’ll pass on the info.

I was checking out the Bullydog tuner for $449.

I ran the Edge w attitude touch screen cts on my 05 Ram. I liked it. Gauges and controls were great. Ebay backup camera ($20) was worth gold hooking up to trailers. Only bad review is it is a hot box. EGTS will require you to turn down tunes more than u like. Whats the point of extra hp if ya have to turn em off? Towing will be tow tune 2 40hp and no more. This saves your trans though. Auto trans had protection parameters in my edge which I used and it was a good feature. I would recommend efi live(runs cleaner, cooler and stronger) :twocents: tuning and gauges over edge/bully etc.

ever since coach replaced my injector pump I’ve been sold on his opinions. He recommended the edge as well as a couple others. But I’ve also heard from a duramax driver that has the bullydog and he really likes it. I bet either one will work.

Make sure you get or buy the egt probe from edge! Take the time to set the trans and safety parameters in the edge unit. :twocents: Enjoy the HP it is a big upgrade..

egt probe?? Never heard of that, is that a separate part I need to buy?

VERY important! Turn tunes up too high and get egts to high it can damage engine. Melt pistons?

This is most important. Do some research and have this. Edge has egt on it but requires the sensor probe to be placed in exhaust. After turbo is not what ya want. Place in manifold or pre turbo for accurate measure. Exhaust Gas Temp. Combustion heat needs to stay below 1400 degrees. Not familiar with chevy but Ford was set at 1300 and my Cummins is 1325 degree max for me. Tunes add fuel and timing. This increases temps/egt. A person can easily set tunes high hook up to a load and run it too hot! Bad tunes will max rail pressures causing injector failure as well. All this said Edge has safety settings to defuel truck and prevent this. It is a safe system and why I loved mine. It does run hotter though (EGT) then custom EFI tunes for example. I think the Edge needs to run a EDge probe not just any brand. It is drilling a hole, tapping it to proper thread and screwing it in. Hookup wire to edge and good to go.

Great info, thanks!

You trying to do 4wheel burn outs Jerry?!
-
:IBCOOL: I tried it in my 05 once. Auto trans, tuned up, 4 wheel drive. Braked to spool turbo and let er eat! Quite the launch! :4w:

How does EFI LIVE work? What components do I need? Is it a plug in and play?

Do a search for "Idaho Rob" The Chevy, GMC duramax forum has enough info to keep you busy for a long time. Most EFI tunes are custom to your particular truck. Way better for them! They get a computer printout of the paremeters of your motor and adjust from there. Can have up to 5 pre-selected tunes on a switch. Or run through and Edge programmer. There used to be an outfit that sold ECMs pre tuned. Not sure if you can get them anymore though. Ive read that the Edge EGT probes don't give very accurate readings and are very picky on install. But Edge products are generally considered top of the pack for over the counter programmers.

http://atptrucks.com/ Check out the EFI live links he has. Probably one of the top 2 or 3 programmers in the country.
You can get economy tunes. H.P. Tunes, light tow tune, heavy tow tunes etc. Usually high h.p. tunes are the more fuel efficient tunes. They are built to be tranny safe. Also when switching tunes its usually best to run it for awhile so the Allison tranny can relearn and adjust for it.
