Title: roadkill permit
Post by: whtbuck on March 12, 2018, 04:13:31 PM
Seeking info about WDFW'S Roadkill Permit Application.I contacted WDFW about this and asked if we could print a permit and take it with us in case we see something. The rule states fill out info within 24 hrs of harvesting roadkill and the permit will be emailed to us.My question to them is if we are camping and have no access to a computer or printer how can we legally harvest roadkill? In 2016 wasn't it just a phone call would do?

Read this webpage.  The way I read it, you have to submit for the permit within 24 hours of the salvage.
Upon receipt, you have to keep the permit with the meat until it is consumed.

Bottom line, submit for the report within 24 hours and you should be fine.

My opinion.

@ NOCK NOCK may have some insight.  Pretty sure he has salvaged 145 animals. :chuckle:

You can probably call a game warden if you find something and get a permit from them.
If you're on Facebook, on the Hunting Washington State group page, there is a guy named Tim Bento that seems to be a local legend in the road kill salvage field. You might ask him, but the rules seem pretty straight forward.

well..if your out camping and don't have access to your computer, you obviously are near a road, hence road kill permit, and drive to a place where you get cell reception and call the game dept...they will either dispatch a LEO your way to give you the permit (verify the facts) or they will tell you to fill it out within 24 hours...and you will have the 911 call as a record that you attempted/did contact LE...don't over think it, if you can't follow the published rules, then don't play. other critters will eat that road kill if you are so far out of cell service you can't comply with the law.

Just submit the permit within 24 hours, on your cellphone.  Worry about the permit when you get home.
