Title: Meat locker
Post by: Oh Mah on March 30, 2018, 10:35:57 AM
I see this topic being brought up every season,So i decided to put this out for any interested parties.

I built my own meat locker so i will store mine and my friend that helped build and pay for it.We bought a meat saw, grinder, tumbler and wrapping paper dispenser.Cheaper as a group and stored securely at locker.

It would be cool if people got together as a group and built their own meat locker on a buddies land and just split all the cost and labor, then a few would have a meat locker of their own to share when needed.A hefty locker could be complete for less than 2 grand easily, very secure.Could work together in all the processing as well with grinders and saws.Just an idea thrown out.

I built mine out of an old 8x12 shed and it works awesome.  Very stout, very big and pretty cheap overall.  I have had 5 or 6 animals at a time in it.  If you bear hunt august or deer hunt sept. it is a must.  I don't charge for friends to hang their animals.....though quite often I am gifted a fifth of crown or case of quality beer.

My best friend and I are gonna start building 1 at his house soon. I'm a carpenter and he is footing the bill. Win win for both of us. Well I think he is footing the bill!

He has a detached garage so we are gonna take part of it and turn it into a meat locker. Any suggestions on how big , or small to make it.  I generally like to build things big but this project I would think a 8'×14' would be suitable. Any suggestions would be sweet. I have built a few wine cellars and probably gonna use the same methods as that.

8x14 is perfect mine is 14x16 but i have saw, grinder, and cutting table at 1 end.i put a 6 in. sewer pipe(plastic) under ground to drain off blood from hosing it down inside, slanted floor to shower drain.Glad i did it got funky where it came out in the field.I would go about 20 feet with drain i think im gonna add to mine its only about 8 feet behind meat locker.
