has anyone had any luck finding 209mag primers in stock anywhere? looking for either cci 209m or federal 209A but so far no one is carrying them
-
Definitely no shortage over here on the east side.
The only shop near you that I am familiar with is Bass Pro Shops. Did they have any?
-
Sportsmans Warehouse in Federal Way had some Federal 209s when I stopped in there recently, but didn't have any CCI mag 209s. Not sure if the Sportsmans closer to you down in Puyallup has any. Worth giving them a call and asking.

What rifle are you shooting and why do you need 209 Mag primers?

Optima with black horn 209, theyre website says to use cci 209m or federal 209a so i was just trying to go by manufacturers instructions

Just use some Winchester primers or cci. Never had a single issue the last 200 rounds or so.

You are absolutely correct - Western recommends the mag primer because of all the different breech plugs that are out there old and new. If your optima has a CVA BH plug you will not need the Mag primer. If you have the Original 209 breech plug you might very well the mag 209. Also id your plug the easy remove with your fingers BP? Or the older plug with the hex head?
This is a picture of the older CVA that I modified to shoot BH. I opened the flash channel from 3mm to 5/32" and installed a Lehigh vent liner on the nose of the BP

Even the quick plug can be modified.

i just purchased the optima so probably the new plug i also purchased the bh 209 breech plug, thus why im trying to find the mag primers in a store. big J in orting and sportsmans puyallup and cabelas lacey were a no go.

I have a cva accura version one I’ve used fiochi 209 primers and Winchester never had any problems. That’s what they recommend other 209 primers will work!

Cool! with the plug designed for BH you will not need a mag primer at all. Regular 209's will work fine. Again Western recommends mag primers because of the different breech plugs out there but if you have a BH plug you will not need them - they are really tough
