Title: Parker lake!
Post by: badlands07 on June 24, 2018, 09:54:11 AM
This was the first year I noticed the Parker lake draws and so I threw my name in the hat for them and got lucky and drew the archery moose. From everything I’ve been reading it sounds like the moose rut is better towards the middle of sept? I plan on spending opening weekend up there but when would the best time to take a week for 2 off work be?

If all you have is two weeks off then hunt the last part but id definately try and weekend warrior the first couple weekends so you know where to go.  Tag has lots of potential but half the guys dont fill the tag including muzzy guys as well so im not sure if thats because of access issues or moose numbers.  Good luck i put in for that tag as well sounds like an epic adventure.

Opening weekend is hot and you will find lots of campers and very little if any moose. That unit is thick with brush and trees and no new clearcuts making it almost impossible to spot moose unless they are in the road. I would use google earth for a bit and then go over for a day and get familiar with the roads and find a couple of camp spots you like and then I wouldn't go back until the last 10 or so days of the hunt. You don't want to burn yourself out and get discureged before the fun gets going and there is zero pressure. I killed my bull on the 19th and the 2 guys before me were the 20th and 21st. The grouse are thick since it is firearm restricrted. You will see groups with multiple birds around every corner it seems so bring lots of extra arrows.

:yeah: Not enough logging in this hunt area, much tougher to hunt.

I've seen some good bulls in the area, you just have to work a little harder to find them due to the visibility factor!

A friend of mine drew a muzzle loader tag 2017. He and friends hunted most of season and saw three moose, getting one. My friend said the other three people that drew that tag did not see a moose.

Well the archery guys went 100% this year on bulls in Parker lake. It’s a really tough hunt. I was pretty discouraged when I started out. The only moose I had saw in the unit was at night until the rut hit then it got awesome! From the 20th to the last day for the season I saw at least one bull a day but was able to call them in just not quite far enough to shoot at. I passed on one small bull with about a week left hoping to get one of the big ones that I had been seeing and almost screwed myself doing that. I ended up getting a small bull on the last day of the season with 5 hours to spare. The other archer hunter got his moose on the 18th it was a a 46 incher. I think of the muzzle loader tags put in a little time they should have no problem shooting some good bulls.
