Was a little shocked when I saw the results but my daughter drew a rifle youth cow tag for 336, 346, 342, 340. Looks like she'll be missing a week of school. Planning on hunting the later part of the tag Nov 3rd-11th after modern season ends.

Like I said, gonna be easy!

you obviously haven't hunted with many young kids. It's never "easy" :chuckle:
-
Amazing how much effort trying to set up a little one can take :chuckle:
Good luck making it happen. I hope beyond anything, that she has a good time

very hard not to get frustrated at times. Best thing you can hope for is to be set up and have elk come to you.

you're both on my short list titled "cow down need help" because its just going to be me and her for a week over there and 10 year old girl isn't going to be packing many hind quaters.
-
You can add me to the list D-rock. If I'm able to help I'm there. Good luck!

Turner is a flake. He wouldn't even drive the 6 hours up and around to help pack out my bull :chuckle:

When do you plan on hunting? I'd go after the regular season is over. That way all the mob is gone and you and the daughter could have the place to yourself
-
Planning on hunting the 3rd-11th of Nov.
-
That should be perfect then, good luck on your hunt!

Daugher has been preparing getting some range time in. First 2 shots off her shooting sticks at 100 yards shooting a Thompson center compact in 7mm08.

how far can you shoot at machias range. Would like to get her some shot at 200 but I don't know of anywhere local.

Bit of a drive from LS, but Plantation in South Bellingham runs out to 300 yards.

How's the scouting been going for you?
scouting who does that :yike:. Haven't done any other than getting tips and pointers from the locals. Have a plan of where we are going to start our adventures. We'll be hunting for 9 days so hopefully we can find some cows.

Thompson center venture in 7mm08. Shooting 120 grain hornady rounds right now.

If I’m back you can hunt my property in 342. Usually a few cows to be found. Have a tree to hang and butcher if needed
-
Had the chance to get daughter out to shoot a little longer distance over the weekend. Set up a few paper plates out at 200yds and she hits them solidly. Rocks blew the plate apart in pic but she's pointing to bullet hole.

Awesome, great shooting

Got our tent set up this weekend. Will be heading back this Friday and staying for 9 days.
-
Still on the hunt. Only seen 2 elk where we could hunt. Thinking about making a move.
-
Keep at it D! It's only gonna get better as the week progresses. Wenas area is pretty slim pickings after two solid months of hunting. It is a small resident herd so once it gets beat up and shot out there just isn't a lot around until there's some weather in the higher elevations and then they start pouring in there. Don't discount the sage country
-
Can you hunt 346?
-
Yes. 346, 336, 340 and 342
-
Yes. 346, 336, 340 and 342

Yes. 346, 336, 340 and 342
Easy peasy...... head over to Mud Lake area below Clemons MT off Hwy 410.
May have to access it my Clemons MT if they didn't open the road crom 410.
OR
Hunt the 1711, off the 1701 just past the private property. Lots of deer, if you drive the road and don't see deer, walk parallel to the road 50 yards into the trees and you'll see deer.

:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: sorry, don't know what I was thinking....... :bash:
But the same hold true for elk in the Mud Lake area
There is an overlook towards the end of the 1711 where you can overlook the area below Clemons MT.
Elk will feed on the private property below, and bed on the south slope of Clemons. We hunted that area when my dad drew Disabled Hunter cow tag for that area a few years ago. Got his one and only elk in his life over there.
