Title: GMU 209 Wannacut
Post by: jdcrosse on June 26, 2018, 05:44:53 PM
Hello Brothers!

My son drew a youth tag for Wannacut GMU 209. I put him in for that tag thinking it was in muley country. After getting the tag I investigated the map and come to find out Wannacut is almost exclusively private land.

I figure I might as well throw out a Hail Mary on the forum to see if anyone could point me in the direction of a land owner in that area who wouldn’t mind a safe, ethical, and respectful hunter on his property to teach his son the basics.

I’d be willing to pay a bounty for any deer harvested.

jdcrosse.... doesn't look like you are getting much luv from the locals giving up a landowner's name.

With all due respect, you might be looking at the wrong map.  There is at least 30 square miles of BLM land that has road access through it with plenty of mule deer, ranging from sagebrush flats to slippery steep timbered slopes.  There is also several parcels of state ground that primarily hold muleys.  Your son will have numerous opportunities to fill his tag with some effort.

If I may suggest getting the map of the Okanogan National Forest put out by the Forest Service and for starters looking at Washburn Lake area, the strip of land north of the Similkameen River to the Canadian Border, and land north of Palmer Lake.  Not to mention an easy hunt of fishing on Spectacle while looking for deer on south side of the lake.

I hope this helps you and your son on a successful hunt.

Best of all.  BTW, are you a vet?
Dale

:yeah:  All of that.  Been several years.  Burned a lot of boot leather in my youth in 209.  Took my 1st muley bucks.  Might want to check into a onXmaps web app :dunno:

Thanks for the quick reply guys and for the great advice. That’s why I love this forum.

I was looking at my OnX hunting map and saw yellow and assumed it was reservation land  :bash:

That’s what I get for assuming...

Dale, yes I am a Vet. 6 years in the Army. Did you serve?
