I know the norm is a spreader bar out here for h'buts. Have been toying with the idea of a bass drop shot rig vs the bar. Has anyone tried this method? Success or no?
This also will be tried mooching this year by me too...

It can work if you can keep it from getting tangled with your main line/

If you are looking for alternative rigging consider tuna cord. I prefer this rig to spreader bars any time.

We fished a grub like that last week with a pipe jig where the weight would be. Both the pipe and grub caught fish....

I just run a slider above a huge swivel with the weight attached directly and about a foot or 18" of mono leader and don't have any problem with tangles. If you have inexperienced people on your boat, the spreader can help, but we don't mess with them anymore.
Just make sure your slider can hold the amount of lead you use.
