My brother drew the 1 Rut tag they give for the Winston unit. Don’t have much experience Hunting these elk during the rut, but should be an awesome experience either way! Any info would be helpful. I’ll make sure to post his success pics🤘🏻Thanks in advance guys

You will want the weyco Permit for the area, I think that one was $350 last year. Winston has gone downhill quite a bit just like every other SW unit in the last few years but that would be a cool tag to have regardless. What’s the season dates on that one?

Hey All,
What is a "RUT" Tag? This is the first I've heard the term. For deer, I assume the rut season is late buck. But for Elk there is no Late Elk Hunt.

1 Rifle permit Sept 24-28
To the OP
Its a big unit and this time of year should be awesome to be in. I think it will require buying a land owner access permit but the experience should be well worth it. Good luck!

Okay I'll try this again good tag to have it will be fun but it will be a hard tag to fill now days do to poor wdf
Management the 520 still has nice bull but hard to come by though between all the tags that have been draw and winter kill and the Indians it's hard to see them barely keep up with there family with the cause to hoof rot before the gates were closed you would see abundance of elk the deer seemed a decline but with all the clear cuts the deer have coming back more don't spend to much time glassing for elk you need to hoof it you can spend day looking and not see one for days in the cuts stay low 3000 line 1108 510 1110 good luck

Thanks for the replies all! I do hunt this unit general season so I know about the pass fee. Just haven’t spend much time in there in September/October! Just hope the bulls are more active than they are in November 😂
