I can verify that there are, but most will be long gone by the time your tag starts.

Don’t waste your powder. Wolves have decimated the quality.

Why would you apply for a unit you've never set foot in? That's just rediculous! No wonder these tags are so hard to draw. Things just aint like they used to be.  You probably won't even do that tag justice.

I agree... Coach, what the hell were you thinking??? You don't have the knowledge or experience for this tag! To be fair, I also have no idea where the Derset unit is... I know where the Desert unit is though!

Honestly, I hope you start a separate thread for your and your families hunts this year. Between your sons elk and deer plus your deer tag it should be a hell of a season!

Just curious. Are you going to hunt this tag with your bow or a muzzy?

Good Luck!

My brother. Is pretty diasbled  due to multiple shoulder issues . My plan is to hold his caps in till I see a shooter. Technically I can shoot for him but I'd rather let him close the deal. I'm not the best judge of deer ... Metric bucks beware lol.i have a buddy that lives in the unit too so we should be able to come up with a plan . Looking forward to helping the boy be successful as well . I've killed enough
......well maybe not but I much rather see friends and family enjoy the harvest. I had plenty of quality deer points and drew a blank ...maybe that's for the best.

I might have missed it, is this a self control issue?  Either he has none or you want it.

Either way best of luck

A guy I know drew the tag several years ago for muzzy and made book. Afterward he said 2 things...I saw two bucks..both big and got one. He also said get permission to hunt private.

Got the truck loaded down with all the muzzle loaders? It’s much faster to just grab another than to try and reload.

my overall assumption of this hunt , I believe my brother will end up holding his tag . the overall age class in the unit is way down . we saw a fair amount of deer and the buck to doe ratio looked to be 3 or 4 to 1. good looking young deer . From what i see too many tags have been given out to call this a quality hunt . waiting ten plus years to draw this tag is a bit of a let down . After talking with Bill yesterday we both agreed to let a buck grow rather than notch . we saw two or three bucks that would have been decent over the counter deer. I was really surprised how many people where out hiking into the middle of the unit getting ready for duck season . We had fun and once I left for work my brother was very limited where he would be able to shoot one due to two very bad shoulders. I'm sure theres a few studs around , with the preserves and private , the issue is getting to them and legally harvesting . A buck pretty much has to be a ghost to make it five or six years out there . by the way those russian olives are nasty lol. Looking at washington overall and what is considered quality  to me leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth . I'm carrying quite a few quality points .I may just burn them in this state or option for a few years until i find something worth going after . you figure once you draw a tag for the most part scouting and possibly staying out of town the cost adds up. spending 1-2 k plus time off to shoot young deer deflates a guy. I truly with washington was draw only for all user groups  both tribal and non. Give me 15 colorado points and see what i get right. So as sportsman drawing quality tags i ask that hunters understand what they are looking for and don't settle to give these areas a chance to be great again.

Ur observations are pretty spot on but imo its not the number of tags given out that is the detriment to a more mature herd. It seems to go in phases of how hard the tribes hit this area (as well as others) when it shows big antlers and the last 2 years have been bad! Of course u get a few poachers every now and again but locals are very very protective of the herd and private ground. Enough so to ensure that most bucks taken outside the legal tag seasons get a phone call made to dfw enforcement to at least check up on activity... sad deal that so few can kill so many
