Title: Mudflow Unit
Post by: 67 Halfcab on June 30, 2018, 07:13:22 AM
Drew a Mudflow Quality muzzleloader tag and I'm going to start scouting during the long Fourth weekend.  For my first trip I plan to cruise the area in the daytime and jot down notes on a map.  Anybody have advice on road access and good camping locations before I make the trip down?

Thanks!

Jamie

I was up there last Sunday and you can access the south portion of the unit from the 3000 road.

From Toutle, take the 4100 to the 4200 to the 4250 which will run straight into the 3000.  There are all kinds of spur roads off the 3000 that go into the Mudflow/Lowitt unit.  I didn't take anything that you could drive all the way down to the river but one got pretty close.

There were quite a few good camp spots.

DM me if you want GPS .gpx file of it.

I have an archery cow tag, so I'll be up there several times this summer.

Good hunting.

You can see the elk from the spirit hwy side.  There is a skidder road that you might be able to take to get you close then hoof it the rest.

I had the Toutle cow tag twice now and have never seen a Elk on the mud flow side of the 3000rd except way up high by Castle lake
