I cracked my 12 ft Ugly Stick down the length of the rod yesterday. I've used it for sturgeon for the last 15 years. :'( I'm looking at new rods today. I'm a bank fisherman and I'm thinking about getting a surf rod cause they're lighter then my old rod so I think I can cast better with one. Thinking the 12 ft Okuma Longitude Casting rod But I'm also interested in the Okuma Solaris Casting and it only comes in a 10 ft. I've always used a 12 ft rod for sturgeon. Is there an any disadvantages in going to a 10 ft rod?

From bank I personally like a 13-14' fishing rod.
