Title: Eberlestock Blue Widow
Post by: alecvg on March 15, 2009, 03:36:28 PM
I am looking at getting the Eberlestock Blue Widow pack, does anyone have this, or used it?  I am just wondering how nive it is.  Or if there are any problems with it.  Any advise or input would be appreciated.  Thanks.

the way I understand it, doesn't differ much from the proven J104 or new J107. Just doesn't have the rifle scabbard feature and was designed more for the bowhunter.

Love my J104.

My only experience is with the X1.  Nice little pack.  Have you seen the X2 by chance?  Just wondering how they are... I know they're smaller than the J series.

I heard a rumor that Eberlestock was sold to another company.... anyone heard that?

i wouldn't buy an eberlestock pack without a scabbard, even if you aren't a gun hunter. i put my tripod in there, fishing rod tube, whatever. thats the beauty of those packs. the only concern i might have is the weight of it. they are known for being a little heavier than others. i am talking in general though, not about the one you're asking about specifically.
i have an x1 and love it.

After alot of research, I think I will get the J104.  Hope it works well, are the shoulder straps comfy?

There's a nice thread about the Blue Widow over at backcountryhunting.net.  I know I'm sure wanting to pick one up this year!  Looks fricken SWEET!  A little heavy at 7 lbs but I'll gladly pack that extra 1 1/2 lbs for all the features of it over the Kelty Tioga 5500 I was looking at for back country trips... ;)

I bought a used J104 last summer from a member here and love the pack.  I wore it every day I hunted and found it to be very comfortable.  Only packed one elk hind quarter with it so far but was very impressed with how much room was left and how well the load carried.  That said, this is my first higher end hunting pack so I'm comparing it to cheap packs and packboard frames.  It's really nice to be able to open the pack up and drop in a quarter instead of hiking out to swap daypack for packboard and hike back in to start the real work.
