Title: Baker Lake
Post by: h2ofowlr on July 25, 2018, 07:18:35 AM
Anyone having any luck on Baker Lake?  I see the counts are at 6,836 for the lake.  Another 13,805 for the trap.  I believe they keep close to 2k fish at the hatchery for stock.  Not sure why they haven't moved another 5k into the lake yet?

Co-worker has taken 4 so far in 3 trips IIRC, with 2 guys fishing.
I'll be headed up this weekend hopefully.

We Did well on them last weekend
Up by noisy creek( inlet end ) we were hooking them 35'-50' using DD flashers and pink or orange hoochie with shrimp at .9-1.2 mph using 5-6 ounces of lead

Baker is a bureaucratic mess. Indians get the most of the fish from the trap.  Counts are inflated of what actually goes in the lake. This coming from the guy who transports the fish from the trap.

What's a "lead rod"?

Not really the rod.  But using lead weight like 4oz, 6oz or something like that in front of your dodger a ways instead of using a downrigger.

Anyone been fishing the last few days?  Was up there last week and was really slow, not just for us for everyone.  Looking at making one more trip hoping the fishing has picked up.

The next opportunity for delicious sockeye is at hand and absolutely dwarfs the puny Baker run. Larger fish as well. If you love eating sockeye......

Heading up for the gong show?  😁
I may have to figure out if I’ve got time for the Fraser myself. Been a few years

I went to baker lake a couple years ago and when I got back to the ramp the truck was there dumping a load of fish and there was a guy standing on the log boom netting fish as they came out of the tank.... I asked the driver what was going on and he said “no comment”.

. Yeah, well when your catching fish like that and have scenery to look at you don’t really care if the pics are sideways or upside down.  It’s a total recharge for me.

Fished Sunday.  Second time.  What a blast!!!

You using the whole shrimp or just a tail for bait? I went Friday late afternoon but it was pretty windy and my kicker crapped out (bad gas I'm thinking) so I tried with the main but was hard to go slow and stay into the wind.
