Title: Bedding rifles with Acraglas?
Post by: Coasthunterjay on March 16, 2009, 05:32:13 PM: Just wanted to know if anyone has ever used this and what there results where?

any tricks or ideas to improve on for aplication or anything else?

Post by: Crisptrigr on March 17, 2009, 08:09:43 PM: I've bedded three different rifles with Acraglas and I like the product, it works well for me. All three rifles performed better with the custom bedding. Make sure you use two (2) coats of the release agent on your metal/steel before following thru with the bedding procedure. Acraglas is an epoxy product and it will permanently bond your barrel/action to a wood stock without sufficent release agent.

There are other bedding products available today and many have had good results with them however I haven't used any others so sorry I can't comment. You might want to look around and see what you can learn/find. I love tuneing rifles and improving their performance. I usually start by bedding just the action first then doing some load testing to determine what effect the new bedding had on accuracy. It's important to have a plan for the rifle before you start making bedding changes. There are other experiments one can try to determine if a rifle will benefit from additional bedding.

Please Please make sure you use enough release agent, otherwise, the term ONE PIECE GUN AND STOCK will become part of your vocabulary. :bdid:

The 25-06 i had done shoots good now,the other 2 guns i haven't shot yet.

Post by: S.O.B on March 18, 2009, 04:54:29 PM: Did the bedding on my 270 Win my self and took the groups from 1-1/2" to 1/2" not real hard just use a lot of releasing agent and be anal you should be fine well worth the time and mess you'll make to get the groups needed for ethical hunting. :twocents:

1. Use LOTS of release agent
2. Use LOTS of release agent :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
3. The gel product works best especially if you have not done this before.

I have had great results with glass bedding.

Post by: S.O.B on March 18, 2009, 06:52:53 PM: Coasthunterjay I could just be talking out of my ass but trying to improve on accuracy is never a bad idea and I dont think you can really hurt it by bedding a stock. So just follow the destructions and good shooting.
Oh one more thing use plenty of releasing agent :beatdeadhorse:

Post by: Big10gauge on March 18, 2009, 07:18:33 PM: Have done it on all my bolt guns, Modeling clay and release agents including Johnson's past wax are your friend. Take your time. I don't use the action/receiver screws but just seat the barreled action in the stock and use clamps to hold it in place, Modeling clay is for the bolt holes and threads, magazine recess, anyplace you don't want the expoxy to get into. Acruglas can be sanded, ground down with dremels etc.

I only use Devcon on the recoil area, for the barrel channel, it is a waste of money imho. :twocents:
