Title: How do you store your diaphragm calls?
Post by: Boot on August 02, 2018, 07:26:23 AM
Over the last year, I have bought all of the Phelps calls and a few promos calls. Currently I store them in a small zip lock bag. I’m thinking there is a better option out there. But a quick good search, I didn’t see anything that I really liked. What are you guys using?

Not the best picture but this is what I've used for over 30 years and I have yet to find anything better.  Shown is an old Federal .22 container but the modern day plastic chew containers are pretty much the same thing.  Use scissors and cut a good bunch of paper towels into circles that stack into the container.  Place the call(s) you're using on top and perhaps a few extras/back ups under a couple of layers of paper towels.  The paper towels absorb the moisture (a very good thing).  Reminder to not leave your container (or any loose diaphragms for that matter) in the sun, on your dashboard in truck, etc.  They will melt  >:(.  Happy hunting!

I used to run the leather one from Bugling Bull, now I have their wrist strap for spares and I just ordered a Phelps pouch for my actives so the dry out better.

As long as it has some holes to breath.  Never put wet call in such a think as an altoids tin unless it has holes in it.

Altoid tin for me as well, but one day I will actually buy something like this.  Make sure to soak those bad boys in mouthwash after slobbering on them.

Don't store them in a ziplock baggie with dry rice in the off season.

It sounded like a good idea at the time, but it's a bugger to get the kernels of rice out of the reeds and the call tastes like raw rice, and it takes a while to get the powdery residue off the call and sounding right.

I use these on my hat while I hunt and it works great!  They are always right there to grab silently and instantly.  I hunt with one on each side of my hat.  I actually had the idea for these before I ever saw them for sale.  I got the idea from having a golf ball marker on my hat while playing golf and always thought that I would invent one for my calls.  I'm glad someone did lol.

I store mine in Camp and off season in the refer or cooler,in a pill bottle with some scope mouth wash in the bottle.

Every so often in rise them with water and add new scope.

No issues I can see.

Primos makes a decent reed storage thing that works great and only costs $6 or so

I use a Oakley sunglass soft bag for storage. In the market for a quick flap grab like posted above, thanks for posting that @Roosevelt
