Title: West Side Muzzleloader
Post by: STIKNSTRINGBOW on September 05, 2018, 12:40:18 AM
After becoming addicted to Elk hunting in the late 1970's..
I hunted with a "Black Powder" weapon, but back then we just bought a tag and hunted with what we wanted to hunt with.
We paid fI'll amount for special draws, and were refunded if not drawn..
I bought a tag every year since 1978, and hunted the season that was open.
When they made us choose weapon and season, I went with Archery.
.
Season opens on the 8th of Sept.,
My shoulder hurts, and I cannot draw my bow.
.
.
After 34 years I am not elk hunting with a bow.
.
I will be hunting unit 673.
I have a camp set up, knowledge of herds, area, unit, etc...

.
Wall tent with bunks available, just looking for hunters to share stories, and help packing.
My neighbor, my daughter, not sure who...
Anybody thinking about Oct. 6-12 WML?
With no idea where to go?
.
You pack it out, you put it in your freezer, and I'll give you first chance on shot..
.

Sounds like a hell of an offer, making me wish I shot a smoke-pole, unfortunately, I'm still stuck in the modern and archery world.  Even worse my work has me traveling a bit this year and it is the first year in five years I don't have the Elk Multi-Season, which based on your post would have forced me to go get that smoke pole.  I will check with a couple buddies who might be interested, but I think one still doing archery.

I have multi-season elk and my hunting buddy only shoots archery.  Assuming I don't punch my tag in the few days of early archery on the East side I'll be hunting, I may reach out to join you for a few days.  I'd love to learn the West side better, especially the coastal units.  My muzzleloader is dialed in and ready to go.

Yeah, if it was just about the meat I would go shoot a local limper, but would rather hunt.
Die hard bowhunter, but have to face reality that I cannot draw my bow :(
most of my hunting partners have either passed away, or given up due to health and family issues.
On the plus side, might get some rain by October...

I'd be all over this if I didn't already have 2 hunts going on this Fall.  If the offer still stands for next year, I'd love to hook up.

Good luck. If I didn't buy a modern tag this year I would've joined you for sure.

Thats an incredible offer! I sent you a PM.  Still deciding between Modern and MZL. I have hunted that coastal area for a few years, no success yet in a bull!  Always nice to connect with people on here!  Thanks!

Not this year but I fear someday I'll have to put down the bow as well.  Already purchased and hunted the early archery season.

This was a amazing offer. I am intrigued as I read through the post. Moving here just last month I am so intrigued with how all this works, regs and all. I am studying, watching youtube, and trying to retain as much as I can. I would love to learn from guys like you. Well, all of you in this sense. Congratulations, it looks like you had a great time. Keep up the gracious and kind work. We all know it is not easy.

I can't believe 33 of you clicked on that photo already....  :chuckle: At least there is an elk visible in it. Shows just how thick that stuff was though.  Here's a little more clear As He Lay photo.
