Post by: Bearhunter on October 22, 2007, 12:23:25 PM
Anybody else on here like high lake fishing.  I love it went to about half a dozen this summer, it just beautiful up in these lakes.  Here are some pictures from our first trip of the year, a lot of bear up there also seen one this day.  Montana blackspots are the prey we were after on this trip.  As you can tell we were a little early.  Hope you enjoy

Very COOL or do I mean COLD pictures.

I love to fish the high mountain lakes whenever I get a chance.  The only thing I see wrong with these pics is the gear.  You need a flyrod in your hand.  Just kidding you.  Some people really take that seriously, and I am just harassing you.  Looks like you guys had fun.  I hope it was worth the hike.

I thought the only people dumb enough to fish in weather that cold were us dumb steelheaders.  Welcome to the low IQ group.  Teh good thing about the cold weather is that it does keep the crowds down.

To tell you guys the truth, I was a little bit scared on the decent down to the lake.  It is steep getting down to the lake, and with 3 to 4 foot of snow still down in spots it was hairy, at one point I didnnt think I was going to make it down.  Coming out of there you had to kick footholes to get up the dang hill.  Its 1100 foot of drop from the top to the bottom to give you an idea, the pictures dont do it justice.  Took us 4 hours to go in, we were going to stay the night but, not enough of the lake was thawed, we fished the hole out in about 2 hours, eat our fish up there, chilled around the fire for a couple hours then hiked back out.  It was a fun trip.  Next year I am going to start building a shelter, and work on it every year to make it better, so day I will take my children up there on yearly vacations for some hunting and fishing.

Yeah, I hike and fish the high mountain lakes every year.  10+ years ago I use to hike with the trailblazers on hikes...those guys are hardcore.  I've had this obsession with golden trout for over a decade and have hiked to 25+ lakes where they are reportedly stocked.  Over half the time, it's a wild goose chase but it's fun anyways.  My wife always asks me when we go on a hike, why are we hiking 10 miles and then dropping over a ridge with no trail to a tiny lake that nobody knows about?  I just tell her I picked the hike because I wanted to ensure that nobody else would be there.

I've done a few of those hikes. They are awesome and the catching is usually outstanding.
