BRINNON, Wash. (AP) - State Department of Fish and Wildlife agents are investigating after two bull elk were killed, with one left to rot, west of Seattle in the Brinnon area.
The Peninsula Daily News reports over last weekend an elk was found shot and killed on private property near the Dosewallips River.
Sgt. Kit Rosenberger of Fish and Wildlife says the poacher removed the head but left all of the meat behind.
Rosenberger says the elk had been rotting for a few days.
He says a couple weeks ago another elk was shot and killed on private property less than a mile away.
In both instances the property owners had not given permission to anyone to hunt.
Brinnon is designated under Jefferson County code as a "no shooting area."
People with information can call the state poaching hotline at 1-877-933-9847.
