Hunted hard the first 4 days. We switched hunting areas Sunday morning because our area near yakima wasn't productive. 10 minutes upon arrival in our new spot we missed shots on 2 elk at 30yds about 200yds from the truck. Each day at this other spot we had shots on elk. We had alot of elk out there and at times surrounded by monster bulls bugling back and forth. Pissed at our cow calls. But the elk were up high. About 2000ft of climbing in rough terrain. The first one was up top and took 2 trips with 4 of us to pack out. So yesterday after a later start we decided to hunt lower. At 6pm the cow call brought this big cow coming down the hill talking up a storm. Ranged her at 50 yrds uphill. Her first shot was a little high and severed the spine. She came crashing down the hill and stuck by a tree. My daughter sent another through the lungs to finish her off. Then between the steep hillside and lack of light it took forever to process her. We finally got her to the truck about 11pm. We had 6 of us so packout was made in 1 shot. Total trip was 4 days of nothing and then we missed 4 shots and killed 2 in 4 days but lots of work. 5500ft elevation and hard hiking but worth it.

Well done! Congrats to your daughter. What a great time, and her first elk, with a bow, and earning it! Awesome!

Nice cow and a nice shot looks like a quartering away?!

sweet...

Congrats

Nice elk and good meat in the freezer, congrats to your daughter! Is the patch of missing fur on her shoulder from when she crashed down the hill?

She had a few spots where branches punctured the hide. Once she came down the hill after the spine shot my daughter finished her off with a quartering away. The hill was about a 55 degree angle and she came to rest head down against that log. Made for a fun time processing her for packout.

Had to go back tonight to grab something we left In the dark and almost took another at 50yds same place. I was at the carcass when she gave us brief side view. Overhead branches blocked us from pulling the trigger.

Yep, I remember when my wife used to be cool like that.
