Looking at consigning a rifle at the local store, How do I decide price?
It is a Browning X Bolt, wood and blue, .280 rem, Zeiss scope,( not a fancy Zeiss, 3X9X40 new about $3-400.00). Is $700.00 seem fair?
thanks

seems like a good price on a good rifle/scope combo but nowadays a lot of people are buying inexpensive guns (savage) and can put a forever warranty vortex scope on it for $500. Plus the fact that it isn't a "common" caliber so don't know what the price difference between a box of 270 or .06 vs 280 shells. good luck though. unfortunatly a lot of people don't appreciate quality vs pricing

Being that its a 280, I'd try selling it privately first.

:yeah: Unless you just don't want to mess with it, I think this would be your best option, too.

What's the shop going to charge you, 20% ? That's what they charge here. $700 = $140 =$560 to you. Scopes are an accessory and not worth hardly anything if you sell it through a store.
Sell it privately.

Thanks, I just didn't want to deal with it. they charge 15% Guess I'll get some pics and give it a try

Pricing (at least advice) is the responsibility of the store. That's why they're getting 15%. If they quote lower than what you're willing to sell, then go private, hang on to it or lower your expectations. Most stores I've seen price consigned inventory pretty fully.

Price is NOT the responsibility on any store. Advice, maybe. Depends on how fast they want to make a buck off of you.

They really aren't making anything off of you other than the fee they charge to sell your rifle. Truth of the matter, most stores that don't consign see it as a loss of business and shelf space. If they can sell your rifle why not sell one of their own?
Exactly..........But, if they sell a consigned rifle, they might sell you ammo, a $1200 scope and so on.
