I have access to a basic ml that is over 20 yes old. Would it be worth buying my own new ml at the $250-300 price?
-
If you’re confident with it use it !! The only plus now is the 209 positives

Which I don't see worth the effort for me. I'll stick with my Dynamit Nobel #11 caps!

x2. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

What do you currently have and what do you think you might improve with a new one?
-
Last Fall I killed my first moose with a 27 year old muzzleloader that still shoots straight and goes bang every time I pull the trigger...don’t replace it it you still have confidence with it.
-
if it shoots well and never fails to fire then stick with it
-
If you hunt muzzy often and it's a hasle to borrow then I would purchase out right.

Thanks all! I'm borrowing the ml, so dont have much existing confidence in the firearm. I am not an avid ml hunter, but will hunt the season when I have a multiseason tag.
-
Well you will get hooked hunting with them ! Maybe wait to buy one until after the season because you can get some good deals on them here on the forum . Then slowly over the year invest in gear and range time
-
The older it is the more I enjoy it. Im still looking to go flintlock one of these days. I think that would be cool. :chuckle:
-
Shoot the heck out of it and I bet you're just as competent with it as the majority of the guys with Knights.

x3 Been using Musket caps with flame thrower nipple. Never had a fail to fire. No reason to change what's worked for Me every time.

I watched an old guy with a flintlock and round balls consistently hit the black at 100 yards, offhand too. He was really enjoying his shooting.

The ML I can borrow is a TC Thunderhawk 54cal.
-
The exact gun I still shoot. It really likes 100 gr pyrodex and 348 gr powerbelts
-
Looks like there is different kinds of pyrodex. What do you use exactly?
-
This kind...

Thanks!
