Hello, so my father is a disabled Hunter and has a hard time getting out and around much anymore these days. This year he was selected for a doe tag in the Palisades. He is very excited but isn't as familiar with the area compared to the chiwawa or entiat where he usually hunts.I'm going to be taking him out this week to start scouting for does. Just wondering what type of public/private Access that area offers and where to start. He can't walk far at all. But he has a quad he can utilize. Any information would be greatly appreciated. There's quite a bit of private land in 269 that's enrolled in Feel Free to Hunt or Hunt By Written Permission Only. I would start by driving all the county roads in 269 and calling the phone numbers on the HBWP signs. It's kind of late to be asking for permission but you might have luck getting permission after opening weekend, especially if you can hunt Monday through Friday. The weekends might already be booked up I would think.

In addition to the above note about private lands access (which is spot on), there's some great smaller patches of BLM and other public in the Palisades. I spend a lot of time in there for work and am always impressed by how many small points of public access show up on OnX that I'd never have assumed were public just driving through.
Worth getting the app and noting a few spots of public access. A few may have quad trails, but most wont offer legal motorized access. Still with 4-5 spots marked, you might get lucky and find a doe in one of them within your walking range.

Yes I agree. I've got the onx maps and have been looking into the BLM lands there as well. It makes it tough that my dad can't walk very far. Going to try and find a place where he can just sit and hope a doe comes strolling by. Thanks for all the info. We appreciate it.

I can maybe ask an orchard owner I know if he has many does on his land and if your old man could kill one.

I've never done it but would consider looking into baiting in your circumstance.

Baiting is also a good idea. We are willing to do anything to give him a good shot at a doe. That would be great! Feel free to pm me. Maybe we could work something out. Thanks all!

Still looking to get a chance for my dad to use his doe tag out in the Palisades gmu 266 or 269. We've been going out to the small chunks of blm land we can find. Just hard with him being disabled he can't walk in anywhere. Any suggestions would be great. Tried knocking on a few doors but people aren't giving us a chance. Would really mean alot to make this hunt happen for my dad!

Are you still trying? Just curious I have family in the area that I could talk to. It’s a close knit community and I find it hard to believe they wouldn’t give access to a disabled hunter but you never know these days.

Just wanted to update and thank everyone for there input for my father and I. Yesterday he made some magic happen. Got a nice doe and was just in time before the ending of his season today. All went well and we hauled the nice doe out for him. Palisades can be a tricky area, but we put in the time and finally got rewarded. Thanks again everyone!
