Title: Picking up old shotgun hulls and steel rifle & pistol cases
Post by: HighlandLofts on September 26, 2018, 08:14:56 PM
I shoot at two of the federal pits that are open to shopt at.since late spring I have been picking up several plastic buckets of the old shotgun hulls and steel rifle & pistol cases. I bought two magnets that look.something like a plunger, you pull the wire lever on the handle and the magnet releases the hulls or cased.
These two pits are about cleaned up, I have been working on them since late spring.

I take the steel cases to the garbage transfer station and dump them in the steel recycling drop box.
The shotgun.hulls I put in plastic bags and throw them away.

I can't figure how to post pictures on here, I can text them.to some one if they would like to.post them.

Cleaning these pits should be a joint effort so they stay open to the public.
And the pig's that shoot the signs they put up at the pits should get some senses knocked in to their heads.

Last weekend I picked up a five gallon bucket and a two gallon bucket of shotgun hulls and two three gallon buckets of steel cases and nails left over after they burned pallets. I started weighing the buckets with the steel cases. These last two weighed 62 pounds.
Last weekend we camped overnight, I take my seven year old grandson out shooting every weekend. I picked up four 5 gallon buckets and a three gallon bucket of shotgun hulls and four 3 gallon buckets of steel rifle & pistol cases. They weighed 122 pounds.
With the harbor freight magnets the garbage is easy to pick up and the trash is easy to get rid of.
We do not shoot shotgun or steel cases rifle or pistol ammo.

We also pick up any brass people leave behind, one day we picked up 22 pounds of reusable brass.

It is great getting my grandson out to shoot and show him how to help out the environment.

I can’t believe how much stuff is left by dough heads that can’t clean up after themselves!
Keep up the good work!

We went shooting the weekend before last weekend, picked up a 3 gallon bucket of steel cases and two 5 gallon buckets of shotgun hulls
We shot for about three hours. We will.ne going to the Lynden gun show then on out to shoot at a different pit up by Sedro-Wooley.

There is a pit out by Rockport I want to check.out then stop by two others on the way back home. We will be making a day of it.

It is pathetic what is left behind.. I always try and take some of the trash left by others with me when I go,  one time I picked up some old gallon oil jugs someone had shot and blew the oil all over the place  :bash: and of course there is always the usual TVs propane bottles pallets ect..

Now that things a wet we can pile up the wood left at the pits and burn a lot of the garbage.
I take dry cut up cedar fence boards, lighter fluid and a long tipped lighter to get things going.
This weekend should be good to get out.

Awesome idea with the magnet. It's so cool to hear others doing what they can to help keep places clean.

I used to try to do more, but now I usually pickup a 5 gallon bucket or so worth of trash when I'm out. Otherwise I'd be at some places all dang day...

We went shooting yesterday up in Lyman, picked up a five gallon and a three gallon bucket of shotgun hulls, a couple gallons of steel cases and a little over a gallon of useable brass.

My seven year old grandson finely decided to shot my SKS for the first time yesterday. Once he shot it, he shot up three boxes of ammo threw it.

As cheap as it is I will buy it for plinking. If we decide to get a little serious with it I will load for it.

If  you have the time and inclination there were some really good videos on how to increase the accuracy of those guns  on you tube.

I will check YouTube out one night after work.
To get set up to reload for it will cost about $100 between dies, brass and projectiles.
If i decide to go that way it will be after X-mas.

We went shooting this past Sunday afternoon. We picked up two five gallon buckets and a two gallon bucket of shotgun hulls, a two gallon bucket of steel rifle & pistol cases and not quit a half gallon of useable brass.

My grandson shot a hundred rounds of 357, a box of 410 and some 22 long rifle.
