Got a raghorn 5x6 today. I'm exhausted. Will post more later
A BIG shout out to my son for coming from E-Berg to help, and my 4 other hunting partners, Dave, John, John, and Tim!

OK, I'm rested now.
Went out hunting solo, to an area I have hunted for years. It is a place my wife and I have hiked into many times, setting cameras. I was not seeing any sign at all. No tracks, no poop, only 1 other boot track. I followed my "route" that I always go, thinking about where I will try hunting next.
As I am approaching the kill spot of my elk from a couple years ago, I see 1 cow staring at me. After about 10 minutes, she looses interest. But while waiting, I spotted some elk bedded down. Glassing the, I see antlers on one of them, and yes, it is a shooter. But I don't have a shot. I move slightly, trying to get a better angle, checking the other elk for antlers, waiting for the buck fever to die down. I had the angle now, ranged at 90 yards. I shoot, and the smoke clears....nothing has changed. All the elk are still bedded, but now some are looking at me.
I reload very slowly, take aim, and fire again. The elk are STILL bedded, but I cannot see the bulls antlers anymore. Reload again, some of the elk have stood up now. After about 5 more minutes, and seeing one elk that has not moved, I start working my way forward. The other elk stayed there until I got to about 30 yards, and then they walked away.
I found my elk had just rolled over dead, it was 11 AM. Tagged it, and sent picture to my son, who told his boss he had to come help me (from Ellensberg). A few calls, and I had 4 of my regular hunting partners on the scene. I was the youngest of the "old" guys, and I'm 64. After carrying out my first load, I was exhausted, and went back up to work on the rest of the things. Last load was at the truck at 6 PM.
