Title: Blacktail Rut
Post by: Mallardmasher on October 18, 2018, 06:13:33 AM
The Bucks I have on cam over the last year have all been nocturnal for last month, over the course of the last week, most have been mia, the few that have remained, you can see a different change in neck swell and posture.
Yesterday was a different story on our stands, all regulars have returned, and we added 4 new bucks we have never seen, nice bucks. A lot of lip curling, air sniffing and bucks all through out the day.
And we have doe's caught on cam peeing all over the place, I think the SNIFF will be early this year. Everything lines up for an early rut like in 1999 and 2010. So get ready and hold on, the fun is about to begin,
Good luck to all

Any pics to share?  I'm guessing Monday is going to really kick it off with the weather change.

No worries.  I was just wanting to see how big the necks were getting.  I'm completely on board with feeders for deer.  Good luck!

PM me  :dunno:  I’m in Arizona at college and really need a deer fix right now  :bash:

Also, I haven’t been home much but from what I remember seeing from friends, has it been a cold summer/fall? I thought I remember late August and September being more wet and drippy than normal. If so, what effect does this have on the rut? If someone who I know reads a lot about this could chip in *cough fishnfur cough* that would be awesome  :chuckle:

They are definitely getting very interested in the does I had a big buck lip curling, sniffing, and pushing the does around last night.

One of my hunting buddies saw a 3 pt on the side of 101 at about 9:30 this morning.

The Rut is dictated by the amount of daylight in a day. Cold weather just gets deer feeding about more for calorie consumption.

It appears there's going to be a rut again this year.  Sounds like things are progressing right on schedule.

I may try lots of sitting and watching this year.  It's damn hard for me since I sit all day and prefer to move while hunting.  Maybe I'll just stick to elk.
