Title: Sigma 14mm f/2.8 vs Canon 10-22
Post by: tlbradford on March 20, 2009, 12:09:53 PM
I am looking at both of these lenses for an ultra wide lens on a canon 50d.  Does anyone have experience with the 14mm Sigma.  It got great reviews, and is a little less than the canon.  I found one for $499 and it looks like I can get the 10-22 for around $550-$600.  I would use this lens for landscape and tight quarters, plus I will use it a ton in photographing architecture and buildings for my construction company.

Any opinions or experience would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I only have experience with the 10-22 tbrad.  It's my landscape lens.  It's super sharp and L quality optically.  The 14mm is faster at f2.8...but will you be using this lens in low light hand held?  If not, give up the stop of light for the variability of the zoom.  Wow, I never thought I would say that as it usually goes against my standard advise.  One other note, the 14mm is not 10mm...  It's also not 22mm...

Thanks Shawn.  I saw a side by side comparison of the two lenses and the Canon was sharper by quite a bit.  I am looking for a good deal on the 10-22.  I actually think I will use it quite a bit for work.  Nothing like taking some depreciation off on a "work" camera and lens.   ;)
