Title: Reloading Question - 7mm Rem Mag Barnes Reloading Data

Can anyone post the recommended recipe for the 7mm Rem Mag from the Barnes Reloading book for a 140 Gr Barnes TSX BT

I need to buy the book so I have their data but am saving right now for components...

That is what I shoot in both my 7mm mags with the Barnes 140gr tipped TSX.

I shoot 140's in my 7mm RUM as well, but use Reloader 22. I need to work up loads for two different 7mm rem mags. What velocity are you getting out of this recipe. I don't want to go to hot...somewhere in the 3100 fps range would work just fine.

Post by: S.O.B on March 25, 2009, 04:58:55 PM: Loaded up some 160 MRX's for the brothers 7MM Win Mag with 62 grns of IMR 7828 and it almost a one hole gun with that load. Why do want to go with such a small bullet?

Post by: JoshT on March 25, 2009, 07:38:45 PM: Ain't any sense in shooting a 160 Barnes in the 7mag... the 140'll kill the same, and the velocity is better for that bullet... hence, the 140 TSX. Personally, I'd shoot the 160 Accubond if I ran a big 7... but that's just me.

Post by: Moosehunt on April 19, 2009, 08:56:00 AM: Finally got a test lot loaded and headed to the range. Only powder I could find was IMR7828. Picked up some Nosler 150gr BTips...which have alway shot great in my 7mag. The best group I got (loads went in half grain increments from 63.5 to 67.5) was at 65.5grains. At 100yds, the group was .435" or .415MOA. I seated the bullet 0.020" off the lands/grooves.

I also did the same thing with my Dad's 7mag. Same lot, same bullet, same test. His best group was at 66.5grains - .466" group.

I am using an old Nosler book - #3. Used their recipe. I don't know velocity yet but I can assume for the moment that it's somewhere in the 3050 to 3100 range for both.

Next Question....it's a hunting round, but should I experiment with seating depth? say load up 5 rounds a piece at 0.010 - 0.040" off the rifling to see if accuracy improves? We also had a fairly good group for both rifles at 64.5grains (chamber length on both rifles is .001 apart - which would allow both rifles to technically fit and seat the same round). Looking for advice from the grizzled veterans of reloading here. Pretty proud with the results so far, but would like to shoot a dime instead of a nickel.

Post by: bobcat on April 19, 2009, 08:59:39 AM: I don't want to think of myself as a "grizzled veteran" but if I was getting groups under a half inch I'd quit right there. Barnes bullets are too expensive to play with when you've already found a perfectly good load for your rifle.
