I know it's a few months away, but anyone know if they are doing it this year?
-
I hope so. I passed on a lot of dogs during deer season so there would be more for the derby.
-
Tagging.

What is the Warden Hunt?

Warden Washington has a hunt every year. I don't remember if a Lions Club or something like that puts it on.

Looked it up, says Lions Club puts it on.
Anyone got any more info on how it works?
Public land?
Private land?
Anyone done it?
Tell us all you know.

It used to be from something like Friday @ 6:00pm - Noon on Sunday. I don't remember where you can hunt, but there is a buttload of private land there and some WDFW too. CRP ? When I was working outta Moses Lake, I would ask the potato haulers and ranchers about hunting on their lands, yes was always the answer.

It used to be a 24hr hunt, entry was a $100 per team ( a couple years ago), it is put on by the lyons, at check in all dogs become property of the lyons with option to buy it back. It is open to any legeal land you obtain permission to hunt as well as state (blm, dnr, etc.) land. I believe it is mid to end of January.
-
In the past it was after all other hunting had closed. last week in Jan or first week in Feb
-
It is the Lions club that hosts it, the Huterites(Sorry if misspelled) also help. It's been a 24hr hunt from Friday 6pm -Saturday 6PM, and trust me when they say 6PM, because they will not weigh a single dog after. Pay for most, biggest m and f, and smallest. In the 3 years I did it, i think they shot 2-300 dogs. I had heard that last years was c-blocked by some tree humper to where they couldn't get their permit. It's typically the 2nd weekend in Feb. They have raffles and a bbq Saturday. pretty good time.
-
Has anyone heard anything regarding the coyote hunt this year? Last info I got was "I heard the Lind Lions Club was hosting". Any locals on here who can expand on this?
-
Lind Gun Club is hosting the derby now.
-
Is there any info you can share? Or know how to get some?

I don’t know much about it, I saw flyer at Tri-state in Moses lake. They took all the Warden Lions club paperwork and copied it so I’m assuming same format. It will be this weekend.

Question: What in the world would the Gun Club want with all those carcasses?
I suppose there is a fur market for them. I know I wouldn't want hundreds of dead coyotes in my garage.
-
Tough conditions, weather, and moon phase. It would probably be fun, but why so late in the season? You shell out $125, spend $150 on fuel and I can’t even keep my own coyotes?? What’s in the raffle and what are typical pay outs????
-
It's late in the season because its after the rest of 99% of hunting is over. No conflicts. 2c

Baran, you always have the option of not spending the $125 and keeping your coyotes but it is a fund raiser and the coyotes sold to a fur buyer will just add to the funds raised.
-
What are the pay outs, generally $?$?
-
Most contests it is a percentage of the entry fees.
-
I understand that, just curious of past pay out and how many teams usually enter?

In years past, the Huterites took some for the fur, and some went to a taxidermy school.

Haha, I think he means 'just got this one *picture* with my dog(Coyote). I asked him to post any pics he had. It sounds a little sketchy the way he wrote it.
-
The picture of the one dog (coyote) that I got during the derby.
-
That is a pile of dogs, and I love it!

Your dog looks pretty worn out. Must have really pushed him.

That's about half of the final count.
