Well, I finally decided to get a ML. Been chewing on it for many, many years and said what the hay... let's get one of those ;). After a bit of research over the past few weeks, I ended up ordering a Traditions Vortek UL. Now I have till next fall to figure out which end is which, what it likes to be fed, and what I need for accompanying gear (projectiles, powder type, those plastic pre-load storage thingamajigs, cleaning supplies, range gear/bag, carry while hunting gear/bag, soft storage case, etc..).
For you ML cats, what is your recommended gear list for a person who just ordered his first muzzle loader (sure, you can be brand/type specific if you are so inclined)? Kind of a "what's in the bag" kinda thread ;). Recommended places to shop for said gear (local stores, on-line)?

Sorry can't help but tagging along for the info!

Good cap carrier.
Nipple Pick
Small possible bag for the reload supplies.

Patch retrieval jag

does it use caps or primers? Muzzleoaders.com is a great place to get gear

209s. Guys, I know there are sites with information, I’m just trying to spark some conversation and get “your” thoughts 😎
Sabot, that is a really good link you posted

Be prepared to have some fun shooting. I recommend shooting roundballs when shooting for fun at targets and I've done some damage to my plates with some other bullets.
Also, search the boards and read Sabotloaders threads. He's a wealth of knowledge and there are a few others on here that are knowledgeable too.
Congrats on purchasing a muzzleloader. I have 5 and thinking about buying another. :chuckle:

I think my most important item is good speed loaders. I have messed with a few types and like the clear one with bullet starter and measuring guide.
A good capper is totally a must. I missed a huge(I mean HUGE buck and was shaking so bad during the reload, theres no way I could have slid on a musket cap with my fingers. Might not be an issue with your break action but definitely try reloading in as many situations as you can.
Man, im so addicted to my muzzy. Bought a Knight UL this year and have been loving it. Not sure I will go back to Modern!

I’ve found that these are my favorite speed loaders

These are my favorite by far. And Ive tried about every one out there. Powder holder, Bullet holder, starter, with bullet ready to start right out of the speedloader, and cap holder. Although I don't usually use the cap in the speed loader as its easier to use my capper.
