I can’t say enough about this bird dog of mine, I picked him up last February with the intent to hunt him this fall, we trained hard all spring and summer, countless hours, some days I thought I’d pull all my hair out, stubborn ol’ GWP anyhow, but we kept at it, watching him mature into a bird machine and knowing I did the training from the ground up fills me with pride, for me watching him work is just as fun as shooting the birds, can’t wait to see what next season holds for us.

Congrats! That is awesome! Next year and the following will be the real deal for sure!!! Out there having fun and making memories is what it is all about. Take a ton of pictures in the field and of success, like so many things you never know what will happen in the future to make sure to keep up on it!

Nothing better than seeing a hunting/working dog doing what they love to do!

Good work! The work and patience you put it in will pay dividends for years to come!
Did you find a particular training program you followed?

I did a year of research before I even dropped the deposit on him, watched a ton of videos red articles from project upland, and luckily my breeder has been a phone call away since the day I picked him up, I was just consistent with training, did it everyday I had off work, never over did it and finished our sessions on a high note, he had 130 live birds in his first 10 months of life and I believe that played a huge roll in his bird drive. He’s still working on his steady to wing and shot but his pointing is flawless, I cannot wait for next season as he matures. Thanks for the kind words

So Cool! Have you thought about or do you already have involvement in NAVHDA or VHDF. I think it is going to get me through the next couple of months. Looks like your dog has a beautiful point.

I don’t have any involvement in NAVHDA but have been considering looking into it, I’m up in skagit county I talked to a fella this year at the lake Terrell release site who was involved in the skagit NAVHDA and of corse by the time I got home that day I forgot what his name was and where to find their website

The guy you met at Lake Terrel is probably on here. Addictedtohunting is heavily involved in NAVDA and he hunts at Terrel from time to time. I think NAVHDA is a really good organization and it’s test prepare your dogs for the type of hunting I do.
