Title: Idaho Fur Sale Results
Post by: Machias on January 22, 2019, 03:19:06 PM
They had a fur sale down in Glenn Ferry I think is where it was at.  This was the write up on Trapperman from Rusty Kramer:

Here is the numbers from the ITA sale.
Fur Sale Results:
The only thing I would like to add is I felt like the overall quality of coyotes was really poor, averages would've been higher without some of the coyotes bringing them down. We had some lots from Indiana, West Virginia and Missouri that drove the average down. I started trapping Sep 29th in the high country and all of those early October coyotes were in my pile. My top coyote was $167, my group of 127 average coyotes was $103 and my 7 rubbed ones I had split out for the craft guys because they were so awful was $76. I saw several coyotes at the sale that were fleshed so poorly (or not at all) that it was like holding up a wet towel. The stink from the heads of one large lot was overpowering. Dad did a fleshing and stretching demo and I hope a couple guys were taking notes. I hate seeing poor handling. One note on the horns. One lot of elk horns didn't bring as much because they were repaired with screws and wire. The one lot of deer horns had whites and browns mixed together. I wanted to thank all of the volunteers and fur buyers for helping. Remember the profit from the fur sale go to protect trapping in Idaho! March 9th sale should be a lot higher quality of fur. Overall I was extremely happy with prices, everyone was out the door by 8 o clock and demos were great. Looking forward to March. Everyone get as many coyotes, cats and muskrats to the next sale! Have two new buyers interested in coming!
Thanks Rusty

Prices for the coyotes were high for sure.  Most state trapper associations see coyotes in the $50.00 to $80.00 (tops) range.  What I hear is that one Buyer took most of all of the coyotes.  He was bidding high right from the get go.  Good deal for the trapper,  :IBCOOL: but this sale is going to set the prices for the season on coyotes.  I sure hope that all coyotes trappers don't  think that this is going to be what they are going to get.  :yike:

Thanks for the post! I didn’t put anything up this year or even try much for coyotes but I like looking at prices. Can’t believe I gave away a bobcat last year, I might go kitty hunting and try getting some pelts by March.

Fur buyers paying 125.00 sounds like a hell of a deal for all my bobcats!
Where should i take my cats to get the most money?

The coyote prices seem crazy high. Might be an anomaly, hope not. CO sale coming up soon and it is the big coyote sale. We shall see if those prices hold up.
The coyote skull prices have to be a mistake, Over $10. I mean how could that be?

One of my guides in eastern Montana is taking 84 coyote in to sell this weekend. He said he has friends who have been getting $100 to $165 for coyotes over there. I think he said $650 avg for bobcats. I do understand it's a different area, different fur, just adding to the conversation.

Why so many sales while trapping is still goin on and not after the season?

The season is over if you are a coyote trapper. Their fur is past being good now. A lot of the cat seasons are ending too. WA has an abnormally long season. Most guys in other States aren't water trapping because of prices so for the majority trapping is about over for the year.
