Bought a new pick up and wanted to know what truck canopies you guys are using. I’ve had Leers on my last three trucks and had issues with all of them.
Thanks for reading!
-
I have an A.R.E and am happy with mine. No issues
-
I have the Leer and am actually going in today to see if they can get the leaks stopped
total BS for 2 year old $1600 canopy

I bought a used, but nearly new, SnugTop canopy, for my Tacoma about five years ago. I think it's their Rebel model maybe, but whichever model it is it's a fairly basic model and the inside is unlined but the side windows slide and the front window folds down. I've never had a single issue with it and I'd buy one again.

What's it leaking on? The new fords have a small stepdown behind the cab on the box and if it's not sealed they leak in the front. The other thing is that if its carpet lined inside where the back window closes it will draw the water up into the box.

Snug top

Toyota tacoma
leaks on each corner front
and left side rear slider,
yes carpeted.
year and half no problems
then canopy world adjusted it before hunting season because one of the corner on the rear lift hatch wouldnt catch right.
They told me last week it wasnt covered, I'm going to have a chat today about that when I take it in.
I searched the toyota tacoma forums and sounds like plenty of others with same issues, I sent a complaint in to Leer also
I have had good luck in the past with leer on my Ford so I put one on the Tacoma
I miss the old Brahmas, never had an issue
-
I have had 2 "Ranger Riders" and was happy with both. No leaks one was mounted on a 2000 dodge the 2nd on a 2010 chevy. Zero issues. Not sure if they sell them on the coast. First one was bought at Mieli's in Spokane and one was by Spokane Topper in the valley

Snug top snug pro!!

I had the same issue on my Tundra. Before that the handles had issues on my ford. Before that the top warped on my 22RE. I’m done giving them money.
-
I've had a Leer 100xr (I think) on my Chevy for almost 2 years with no troubles. I'd buy another.
-
Well they resealed the front behind the cabin along the forward bed corners we will see if it works
Good thing was they didn’t charge me any $$$

Which model A.R.E do you have? They look nice.
-
I have an are on my tacoma and there are significant gaps in the corners above tailgate that let water in. Ive checked out leer and snugtop canopys on coworkers trucks and dont see that problem. Knowing what i know now i would not have gotten the are
-
Snug top on a 2007 Dodge full size, No leaks at all.
-
I have a Leer on my 2010 Tacoma long bed. I hate it. the center handle to unlock the rear freezes to the glass every time it gets much below freezing. I have to keep a bottle of alcohol in the truck so I can get in my cab. The rear glass has fancy hinges that look great, but when the window is open, there is a 2" gap between the fiberglass and the now tilted window that dumps all of the rain it can catch right into the bed of the truck. Think of winter steelhead weather getting your waders off and such. The sliding windows (my bad, I could have paid more) suck, as you have to kneel in the bed to unlatch the slider., get the "pop out" type window. Of course it leaks......

Same.
I think it’s a Toyota issue.
I have a Leer on my F150 and paid to have the electric locks wired to my Ford fob.
Best option ever!
-
Snugtop for me on my last three silverados and no big issues.
My uncle, jdhasty didn’t have nearly as good of luck with snugtop. They gave him the run around and he wanted to give them a hickory shampoo.
-
Sounds like every top has fans and haters lol. Some companies I’ve looked at don’t even make them for my vehicle yet 🤦♂️ 2019 F250 short box
-
I have a leer, its decent, but not great
I understand they are built a little more solid now a days
The one thing I would reccomend is some windows that open from the outside, to where you can reach gear in the front of the truck bed without climbing through the back, mine does not do this and I hate it.
-
I have a leer on my f350. Its all fancy with carpet and lights and such but I wouldn’t recommend it. Multiple leak problems
-
Snug top supersport
Canopy kingdom in fife
Great place
-
If I bought another new full size truck this would be my first choice http://www.caravancamper.com
No more fiberglass
-
I have a leer 100xr on my 2103 gmc sierra 1500. Its only been on for 2 week but I like it so far. Like was mentioned before, when you open the rear glass it will dump water into the bed with that gap.

Make a pole hook. Get a closet rod/dowl, drill a pilot hole in one end, thread in a bicycle hook (the kind you use to hang a bike in a garage) screw the hook in the end of the dowel, cut to length and there you go! I never climb in my bed for anything anymore and if it breaks so what...about $10 to make another one!
I had a Leer, won't own another. SnugTop arrives next week so we'll see?

Good advise here.
I've always had one of these hooks I can open and close the Windows as well

I use a hoe to grab gear i can't reach and open/close windows. My buddies laughed until they saw how well it works.

Canopies are crazy expensive for what goes into making ‘em. Lots of markup by mfgr, distributor and dealer.... but they depreciate very quickly in price. I needed a good canopy for my ‘07 Colorado which is hard to find, meaning the local dealer would have to special order with an end price of around $2500. So I went on national craigs list and found the same canopy in San Francisco. Called the guy, exchanged pictures and phone call so he knew I wasnt a scammer. I paid his full asking price of $600 via Paypal and paid a shipper (found on Uship) $150 to deliver to my house. The driver even helped put the canopy on the truck. Great deal!
-
I'm not gonna lie, I pooped a little when I went and ordered mine. :peep:
$$$ :yike:

Does anybody with a Snugtop have the fold down front window? It’s a free upgrade this month and was wondering if it would be more prone to leaks or not.

Wish someone would come pick up my snug top, ingot silver, 2010 super duty canopy.
Tired of it sitting around.

Cool, thanks. Do you find that you use it very much? I can either do that or the keyless entry for no charge.
-
I have it on my snug
No leaks. Great and easy to keep clean
-
Cool, thank you.
-
I have the fold down window and keyless entry on my leer. I never use the fold down option. And I couldn't live without the keyless. Best thing ever

:yeah: I have no experience with the keyless. But I wish I did! I did have a fold down in my leer on a Tacoma and used it a bunch. Pretty much anytime I camped in it. Maximizing usable area is huge when the bed space is minimal. If I had more bed space it might have been underutilized.

Yes, I have a snugtop on my 19 tacoma, no leaks so far including at the fold down front window

I don’t use it much. The back window of the pickup doesn’t get dirty.
