Title: Colville turkey hunting
Post by: roderickweise on February 26, 2019, 10:55:32 PM
Hey all! I'm from the Bellevue area on the Western side of WA. This is my first year out turkey hunting. I was born and raised in northern Minnesota so I ended up not doing any turkey hunting when I lived there.

I am trying to scout out areas to hunt on my 3 day trip to eastern WA in April and I hear alot of people say Colville National Forest. I have been looking and the national forest is all over the place. Is it better to hunt the Colville National Forest in GMU 101 or GMU 111 or GMU 108. Basically what GMU would be the best for a first time turkey hunter? I plan on hiking into the woods some solid miles each day to get away from anyone. I figure 2-4 miles of hiking and I should be away from most people.

Thanks for the help.

If you have a chance I will be putting on some turkey hunting clinics. March 16th Sportsmans Wharebouse  Federal Way, March 30th Outdoor Emporium Seattle and March 31st Balck Diamond Gun Club Black Diamond.  Those are alll good areas.  I have hunted 108 and 111.  Where at in northern MN,  also from that way north in MN.

Actually I will be attending both the March 16th one and the 31st one. I am from the Park Rapids part of Minnesota 2 hours to the east of Fargo and 3-4 hours north of the twin cities.

I am super excited for turkey hunting this year I have been watching a ton of turkey videos. Calling in a big gobbler looks like so much fun.

I see bearpaw sent you a PM already. He sells maps for folks who want to guide themselves. I've got one I bought from him a few years back. I was just looking at it the other day. He sat down with my group when we bought it and we had a great chat about turkey tactics and he gave us great advice. I'm a huge tightwad but consider it well worth it to put a little coin back in bearpaw's pocket for all the great stuff he's done on the site, and the great work he does as a small buisness owner supporting the sport we love. He's also got some great stuffed game at his place, including turkey.

Russ your talking Ely like super far north on the border Ely? That's way up there. I think I have only been up that far once in my life it was pretty nice up there though.

TheStovePipeKid thanks for the info I will have to message him and ask about the maps. I am however not looking for pin point spot more of a general direction I.E south GMU 101 ect part of the fun for me is not only getting a bird but also exploring different spots till you find a bird.

I also want to thank everyone for the info I have gotten I really appreciate it. I will not only do some hunting out eastern WA but will most likely go out every weekend in western WA and try to get a Eastern and since they are a lot closer I can actually scout for them.
