Title: Yakima Camping Suggestions
Post by: daddysprad on March 25, 2019, 07:03:36 AM
My grandson has a baseball tourney 12-14 April in Yakima.  We're going to drive the motorhome down, watch baseball and maybe take the wife wine tasting.  Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions for a campground if you know of a good one.  Thanks.

There isn't much around, but sportsman's state park would be a good bet.  If you want to drive A little more there's blm camping in the canyon.

Yeah I would definitely go to the canyon. Also a very  good chance of being able to watch sheep and deer while you are there.

Camping in the canyon takes another pass. I don’t remember which one but it’s not discover. It is a nice early area.  Up Chinook pass there is elk ridge and squaw rock.

Big pine campground in the Yakima river canyon

:yeah: This is a nice place. Shouldn't be to crowded this time of year. Its BLM, so not sure what pass you may need or if you can just pay there.

I also heard there was really good camping along first street!  :chuckle:
If you live in Yakima you will understand.

Sportsmans is a really nice park, and will fit the bill just fine.  It will be close to your tournament and town.

I prefer 4th and MLK  :chuckle:
All seriousness stay away from those streets. Is the game at one of the schools, pipins field or what. That can make a difference. You can also try the sun tides RV Park. It’s right next to the golf course off the 12.

Don’t wear the colors red or blue and be mistaken for a sureno or Norteno gang member and get shot

Drive by gang shootings are  pretty much a fail occurrence in Crackima

Most of the parks in the canyon are federal I believe. I doubt there will be many there so I think paying at the gate is plenty likely. I'd see what you can find out about them though, it's early in the season.

Not much for state parks locally and I haven't looked at local parks. Sportsman's is too close to the homeless community for my taste. (They're the predominant wildlife around town.)

If you're at SOZO, it's on the far south side of town.  (Closer to Yakama than Yakima, but I don't think the tribe has any RV parks!  ;) )

They're joking about staying in Eastern Downtown... but they're not joking about the mini-seattle the city fathers have created down there. It's a MESS. Avoid it entirely.

Great area, great kids' sports community, have fun!

If you don't mind being an hour from Yakima I would go up to Clear Lake or Rimrock.
