Title: CZ Scorpion Project
Post by: magnanimous_j on March 27, 2019, 09:51:19 AM
So this little lady followed me home last night. I did the SB Industries Brace, Sig Romeo5 red dot, trigger spring kit and safety delete switch (still in the mail).

I have no doubt the brace is going to serve its purpose just fine. But for $200, I was expecting a little nicer fit and finish. There are a few imperfections in it, and the material is definitely not of the same quality as the gun itself. The color match is decent, but noticeably different, which is mildly disappointing since the brace was made for that exact gun. But its sturdy (and no wobble) and the folding and locking mechanism feels really strong.

The bolt is SUPER stiff. My pinkie is a little bruised after cycling it a dozen times or so last night. If it doesn't loosen up, I'll be getting the oversized charging handle that's popular for it. One question about the sight, since I've never had a red dot before, is there any advantage (other than a lower profile) of using the low rise mount?

P.S. Before anyone says anything, I've never been a fan of those counter tops either  :chuckle:

Welcome to the party pal!

I have had mine a few years and love it, went the full sbr route with mine.

Hit up this website, get yourself a safety delete/replacement and one of their charging handles.  Both $ very well spent.  The factory safety lever tends to eat your knuckle on shooting hand.  Also look at the trigger spring kit, it helps quite a bit.

I recommend a low mount for a few reasons.
#1 it lets you get down on the brace for a solid cheek weld.  Notice your brace slopes down which is to bring your eye down and behind the factory sights and locked in with the gun.
#2, The lower mount will mean the red-dot will match (co-witness) with your factory sights.  If you have a dead battery, no big deal you can see your factory sights thru the red-dot.  With the tall base you have to remove the red-dot to use the factory sights.

With this one, you actually can see through the hi-rise mount and see the front peg, barely.

Did you do the trigger spring yourself? I've got the part, but I'm reluctant to try installing it. Too many tiny parts.

How does it shoot?

Good! I brought it out to the woods last weekend. It wasn't an ideal situation to dial in the red dot, so it was more or less just cracking off a couple hundred rounds for the fun of it. As you would expect, virtually no recoil, no malfunctions of any kind, extremely easy to get a super fast and tight 3 shot group (it wasn't hitting where the dot was, but it was hitting it consistently  :chuckle:). I really liked that the stock (sorry... brace) in the folded position, didn't interfere with case ejection at all. Totally functional while folded.

I got the safety delete kit and trigger spring kit but haven't installed either. The safety kit is ESSENTIAL. The safety switch will dig into your trigger finger really bad. After just a couple hundred rounds, my knuckle was raw. It's a legitimate design flaw. It would be unacceptable except that the fix costs 10 bucks.

The trigger kit... I don't know. I thought the stock trigger was fine. I was expecting some gritty, heavy pull like a cheap DA S&W knockoff revolver. It wasn't like that at all. If I hadn't read that almost everyone does the trigger spring, the thought may never have crossed my mind.

All in all, its a really fun gun to shoot and I think it will make a great urban SHTF weapon.

That safety does look to be placed a little bit too low for normal or above size hands.

A yetiworks grip or Magpul grip will eliminate the safety bite.

I picked up a micro a few days ago and plan on doing the grip and trigger .

From what I've read, the military version has an additional "notch" for full auto, which would put the lever out of the way of your finger, leaving semi-auto mode as the only one with the issue.

Still though, you don't really think of the Czechs as a petite people.
