Title: Are my cams bent?
Post by: derricklovatt on April 03, 2019, 08:15:03 AM
Hi everyone. I’m new to bow hunting so pardon my lack of knowledge. I got this bow second hand and I’ve always wondered if the cams were bent slightly. I’ve been shooting regularly for 3 months with it and never had a problem but would like to fix it if needed, groups are tight. Notice how the string slightly moves left coming off the cam not straight down. What do y’all think. Bowtech Realm X

Hard to say from one picture but I see what you're saying. looks like it leaning but not bent. cable on the left might need a few more twists. take it to a shop and they'll know for sure what to do.

You can lay an arrow flat against your cam to see if its leaning.  If all is good it should run paralell with the string. If its leaning it will either cross over your string or lean away from the string...depending on which side of the cam you lay the arrow.  if it really is leaning a few twists in the proper buss cable will fix it. but once again you'll most likely need a shop for that.

The cables just need a twist to straighten it out.  Not unusual at all.  What is more important is to take a peek at it when you are at full draw.

Right on thanks everyone.  I took a peak and everything seems good , the cams are definitely straight but I was just worried. My buddy has a horror story of a bow blowing up on him haha. Gonna take it in for a service and new sight 😜👍

Any bow that has a cable guard will pull the cables to one side of the bow, thus inducing cam lean. Also, solocam bows typically have a different string track between the upper idler wheel and lower cam due to the nature of their design, thus it appears the string is always angled.

They don’t appear bent to me but I have the same bow and they do appear to have a little to much “cam lean” a good shop will have a laser to get them properly aligned a crappy shop “most shops” will tell you it looks fine. But you can check it just as easy with an arrow shaft. There tons of how to videos on YouTube. But you will need a press to do any work yourself. These bows are 100% tunable and you should be able to bareshaft tune it no problem in a good shop.
