Title: harvesting mussels at Westport
Post by: HarboritE on May 25, 2019, 07:10:39 AM: im going out to the jetty tomorrow and was thinking about grabbing a handful of mussels to cook up. the DOH site shows all the beaches in the area closed for harvest of shellfish which doesnt quite seem right. i cant find any further details on the iser friendly web page. i guess ill aire on the side caution unless i find out otherwise. any insight?

Post by: j_h_nimrod on May 25, 2019, 09:18:34 AM: Not sure of the particulars in this area, but from what I was taught, mussels tend to hold domic acid and PSP causing chemicals much longer and accumulate to higher levels. For that reason I have never chosen to harvest mussels.
