Title: West side archery
Post by: CackleBird98 on June 13, 2019, 03:43:49 AM
Hey all, I'm pretty new here, but seeing a lot of good advice being passed around.  Been hunting elk on the Eastside with a rifle for 12 years.  Finally got lucky last year, got my first spike.  Needless to say it kind of lit a fire.  Anyways, I've been looking into the westside units and seriously thinking about trading my eastern rifle tag out for a western archery tag as I could have the option to take a branch bull and was thinking archery would be fun to hunt the rut and hopefully get away from the crowds a bit.  Only problem is, I know next to nothing about the westside.  Kind of eyeing 513, 510, 516 or perhaps 654 but open to suggestions.  Not looking for anyone's honey hole or anything like that, just some good info that could help get me pointed in the right direction to hopefully get my dad and me into some elk.   Anything helps!

Are you talking about doing this next year? Because if you applied for special permits for elk, you can't exchange your tag for a different tag this year.

Oh you can't?  I was under the impression that you could if you didn't get drawn.  Didn't see anything in the regs that you couldnt.  Just that if you were going to you had to do it before September 1st for archery

Eh, guess you're right.  Thought I had found a way to cheat the system.   :chuckle: :dunno:

:chuckle:  Yeah I can imagine there would be a dynamic shift in pressure and application strategy if that were the case :chuckle:
