Well after teaching hunter education for 15 years I finally drew the tag I wanted, any Bull elk in the Peaches and observatory units, , that's 5 GMU's 336, 334, 340, 342, and 346. all the special hunts including quality, bull and regular season except youth and over 65, I live in the Teanaway so I can pretty much hunt every day possible especially the rut, Archery, Muzzy and Modern. I'll do my best to do this tag justice.

congrats, that is a great opportunity, good luck

Wow! I can't wait to see how you do.
-

That is awesome! You're going to have one heck of a memorable year!
-
Ok Dave, with your intimate knowledge and a rifle in hand, I expect nothing less than 400". Congrats sir
-
I'm very much interested to hear how this turns out. You have helped alot of folks and I know you enjoy doing that more than hunting for yourself. You of all people know the potential both for the experience this offers and the possible trophy. 8)

I had the good fortune of helping the recipient of the same tag last year, 76 year old fellow instructor that has been hunting for his entire adult life, he ate the tag not wanting to shoot in his words (just any bull) we had him on some small bulls and a few monsters in my book, I would have taken, we hunted to the last day, after the season ended he said it was the best elk season he's ever had, just having the opportunity to hunt for any bull in the these units was a blast.

Somebody who knows what its all about! Good for him!

So far I have had a great time, it started out for me Oct 7th archery I had scouted up high in the Tanuem located one monster bull that was in a giant canyon feeding in the open at night then bedding in the heavy timber at daylight, I had him at 600, 500, and at 200 yards on the last day on archery season, wouldnt you know it that bull never showed itself again even all through the rifle hunt that just ended on Sept 27th, I made attempts to cow call but he was content with the girls that he already had. I located a few other bulls bugling with the help of my brother and a few friends called in a nice 6x6 out of the fog and driving sideways rain at 80 yards like a gost he stood there facing me then dissapeared into the fog, he came up out of the fog at 100 yards for a sideways easy shot, he looked to be in the 340 range and knowing that he was a satalite bull passed. Went to another location in the lower valley we had located a smaller rag horn bull at 200 yards that looked normal on his left side long times but his right side was goofy, may even be a legal spile a long main beam and then like a sword tine like daggar that extended out 20 inches or more below the ear, kinda uglie. The weather has been foggy and rainy up high for the most part with high winds, starting Muzzle season the forcast is lowering snow levels and cold, taking today off to recover, lick a few wounds and gear up.

Sounds like fun! Good luck!

I'm the luckest guy in the world, live on 500 acers in the Teanaway, get to see deer and Elk on a daily basis, cougar bear and turkeys in the driveway so when I first drew the tag I was like (this is going to be a cake walk), only problem I cant hunt the Teanaway, Oh darn, I hunted the early archery season up high and located a great bull in a hell hole in the Taneum, just dragging my self outta that place took most of the day, I had him at 600, 500 and a week later at 200 yards screaming during the rut, once Muzzeloader season started he moved out of the area I never seen him again, I did get into a few bulls holed up in thick snarly thickets just going off but couldnt call them out and every time I tryed to get agressive and get in there space they moved off just enough to avoid a clean shot. spent a few days in the little naches and the wenes, had a couple shooters at 300 yards a crazy looking rag horn at 200 yards one monster bull with a dozen cows at 300 by the time I got set up it was off to the races, I had help from my brother who just turned 65 and few other good friends on this fourm with advice and some helpfull tips, first off I am no expert at hunting elk in the rut, I have been busted so many times its almost funny, I dont like to admit it but have ate 3 quality Archery bull tags since they went to the current draw system, over the last 30 years holding out for the once in a life time bull, I have one that scores 433 and 5/8 Sheds that I picked up that the elk foundation mounted for me already so it wasen't likly to exceed that, my goal was to shoot a 350 class bull. fast forward to this morning the start of the rifle bull tag I had my eye on a respectable bull one simmilair to a few that I had passed on during muzzeloader season just a few weeks ago, I am the luckest guy in the world, my brother was by my side, the bull went 10 yards and we got it out whole. pictures to follow
