Title: Lost or forgotten camera..UPDATE found
Post by: NOCK NOCK on June 13, 2019, 10:09:29 AM
Who will admit to losing a camera they forgot where it’s at, or the like?

I put one out after modern season last year fairly high country.  At the time I had a feeling that I shouldn’t leave the camera there it may be hard to find again  but left one anyway  :bash:
Old burn area, LOTS of blowdown to  climb through to get to the spot, not the place the average hiker snowmobiler hunter etc. would want to be,  so I’m guessing it probably wasn’t stolen. In box and cabled to tree that was still alive on upper half.

The problem is I don’t remember the exact tree that I put it on  :chuckle:  I do know within a 75 to hundred yard Circle it should be in there.  Spent over an hour grid searching for it yesterday with no luck.  Like I said there is a ton of blow down here so I’m thinking the tree went down over winter.  So for now I have “ unofficially lost”  my first camera ever.  I will make one more attempt in a couple weeks to locate it before I completely write it off.

Do you not carry a gps? I mark the locations of all of mine, just in case.  I rarely need to use it to find them though.  Just if i hang one in a new area ive never been in and dont go back for like 8 months or more.

One of the places I've got a camera is about 100 yards off of a rarely-traveled logging road. About four or five years ago they punched a bunch of holes off of the main road into the forest to spread biosolids. Deer seem to like the resulting plant growth, so I put a camera out on one of those satellite "roads".

The problem is that all of these little roads look almost identical. I thought I would remember which one, but the first time I went back, it seemed like I absolutely couldn't find it. I went up and down three or four of the roads, looking, before I finally spotted it.

I always keep notes of where I put them. Rarely use GPS, always been good at navigating by instinct. Run 14-16 cams a year and never lost one. GPS couldn’t get me any closer than where I know I left it. Really thinking it went down with the tree/ LOTS of blowdown like pick up sticks there now

I always take a few...or lots...of pictures of the cam and area for reference when I come back.  I also carry gps.  Never lost one yet.

Ive been glad to mark a couple cams

The only one I lost, not stolen was in Spokane about 20 years ago. Left it out all winter, went to grab it in the spring and the area had been logged. The tree it was on was gone and so was my camera

"GPS couldn't get me any closer..."  since you haven't found it, are you sure about that?  8)

Exactly how old is your GPS? Current ones get you within a few feet.

Most consumer gps have an accuracy of +\- 7-10 meters.
My brain is more accurate than that.  ;) 8)

Turned out just as I figured, was still on the tree that blew down, Spent more time looking at the downed trees this time to find it. Got pics of it falling over, and of an unknown critters foot that I'll post in a whats this thread.

Kind of wondering if the shadow in the 5/6 pic is a bear :dunno:
